GPS keeps shutting off

2013-09-09, 13:29 PM

My GPS keeps shutting off on its own.  I turn it back on and it happens again at some point.  Why is this happening?

Thanks.

Do you have any battery saver, smart action, or task manager running?

Also, does it shut off while you are using an app that requires GPS?  Or when GPS is idle (not being used)?

I am running the Battery Saver smart action.  It's set only to set screen brightness and adjust background data.

I also have a Low Battery Saver that should only set GPS off when the battery is < 50%.  Maybe I should just remove that action and see what happens.

I'll typically try to run an app that requires GPS and it will tell me GPS isn't enabled.  So I guess it's shutting off when the phone is idle.

Thanks.

Are you saying that when you go into settings, that GPS is switched off?  Or are you just going by the GPS icon in the notification bar?

Can you test in Safe Mode?

How to put a RAZR/RAZR MAXX into Safe Mode:

  • Press the power button as if you want to turn off the phone.

  • LONG press "power off" until a popup appears asking if you want to reboot in safe mode.

  • Tap OK.

  • Run your phone long enough to establish whether the device continues to exhibit the issue or if the issue goes away.

  • To get out of Safe Mode, simply power down your device and then reboot as your would normally.

Remember:  Safe Mode is a diagnostic tool to help determine if the cause of your issue is related to a 3rd party app.  In Safe Mode, 3rd party apps are prevented from loading so if your issue goes away, then your next step is to try to determine which app is a fault.
