Success! (I think) I see a faint "Safe mode" in the lower left corner, superimposed on top of the same problem screen. What's next?

Great...can you access all of your applications, menus, icons, etc. now that you're in safe mode?  Remember that in safe mode third party applications will not run.      --- Dan

Re: Can't get out of Emergency mode

Nope.  crying  It'll let me type numbers into the dial pad (but nothing else like dialing/sending), and I can bring up the Emergency contacts from the button on the problem page. I'm gonna pass on tapping the Emergency call button. Also, the notification bar doesn't pull down in this problem screen.

Just to be more clear, the Menu/Home/Back/Search buttons don't work.

Ok, I typed in a password for a new app and hit the "Return" key, and shazam, I'm in what I think is the real Safe Mode. I'm going to uninstall the new app and see if that helps.  Cross your fingers, please.

If you are in safe mode, you'll see a very faint "safe mode" displayed in the extreme lower left corner of your screen.  We'll be here if you need more help.    --- Dan

When I rebooted, I got the same problem screen, but not in Safe Mode.

I'm going to look at the screen lock settings to see if something was changed in there.

Semi-success, now I have a screen lock which I don't want, and I'm not seeing how to get rid of it.  Suggestions?

A reboot after being in safe mode (as you now know) will return you to the 'normal' operation of our phones.  Do you recall the last thing you did with your phone before having this problem?       --- Dan
