MMS download problem

2014-11-10, 20:39 PM
Hi,first other than a few minor issues I absolutely love the Turbo, great job Motorola.
I may receive up to a dozen MMS messages a day, my problem is I have to manually turn off WiFi before I can download them, am I missing a setting somewhere? 4G is in the taskbar very dim but appears to be on, my last 3 phones (2 Motorola and an S3) didn't require any actions on my part, anyone have the same issue or can point me in the right direction to resolve this? Any help would be greatly appreciated
Thanks

Hey imragtop, long time since we talked. UPDATE: This morning MMS is working as it should, images download without any interaction on my part, I don't know enough about the process but I'm thinking it may have been a Verizon issue here, we have been having issues with loss of 911, weak signal where they had always been strong, etc., wondering if it's due to the updated service coming soon.
Thanks to all that responded, for now (as long as it continues to operate properly) I'm sticking with this app, the feature set has all that I need at this time.

Try a 3rd party texting app.  Sometimes, the stock apps are a little too rudimentary....

I use TEXTRA, which has some MMS specific settings.  I'm sure the other highly regarded SMS apps (Handcent, Chomp, etc) have something similar.

Thanks, I will look into that and keep it in mind. I'm trying to keep this phone as free of 3rd party apps as possible, having come from the original Droid dealing with poorly written apps, etc. causing some extremely annoying issues I try to keep and use as many of the standard apps as possible, I actually like Verizon's message+, so much so I have it running on my S3 as well now.
Thanks for the heads up

Totally understand your desire to stick to the stock apps.  For the most part, I too share that desire, and try to keep my device as streamlined as possible.  3rd party apps are only added if

  • they are from highly reputable devs

  • app has A LOT of excellent reviews (4+ average review)

  • I can't get the feature/functionality that I want/need from the stock choices

That said, I typically have <40  3rd party apps on my device and it runs smooth and fast :)

Is it only the Message+ program that is causing this issue? Have you tried using Hangouts or the stock Messaging app? I rid my phone of anything that Verizon creates for the very reason you are trying avoid 3rd party apps; they are usually very poorly written. That being said, I like to avoid 3rd party apps as well for the same reason.

Which messaging app are you using?  I use the stock messaging app and have no problem receiving mms messages while connected to wifi.    I have never used message+ and have it disabled. Based on some of the user comments it sounds like a common problem.

So far I have used message+ with no problems. I started with the stock app but it didn't want to allow me to send a pic.

I used Handsent on my last two Droids but am trying to stay streamlined on the Turbo.

I have tested on my Turbo with the stock messaging app and haven't been able to recreate this issue. Does this happen with every MMS you receive when you're connected to WiFI?

Thank you,

Tom

Hi Tom, thanks for responding. As I posted earlier today pictures-MMS are coming in just fine, no changes on my part, maybe it was an app issue or as I noted something with Verizon in my area, the Hudson Valley of NY. I haven't looked at the combo modem - router for brand or model, however I am connected to WiFi approximately 90% of the time through FIOS at several locations, and the issue existed at everyone of the sites. It is useless to visit my local Verizon store to demonstrate the problem I had, they have restricted WiFi, naturally 4G was active and the messages downloaded perfectly as I knew they would.
As of now I am in the simplest of terms "A very Happy Camper" with the phone and I am really looking forward to Lollipop to experience all this phone was designed to do : )
Thanks again,
Rich
