Re: Official Lollipop (Android 5.x) News here

Maybe joelbon has inside information I don't, but I seriously doubt Motorola didn't have any access to the Lollipop source code before November 3. I also seriously doubt that they never worked on 5.0.x for the Turbo. I think they started on it, and partway through, when they realized they were still having lots of issues with Advanced Calling as they did on KitKat, and after they found out VoLTE support would be baked into 5.1 by Google, they abandoned work and re-started once they had the 5.1 source code. My theory (and mine alone, no inside info, just my speculation) is that the February update was originally supposed to be 5.0, but that's about when the decision was made to yank 5.0, and so they quickly put together a bug-fix KitKat build for those of us in the botched 4-week-long soak test.

Even if they did no work on Lollipop until 5.1 was released...true, they have "only" been working on it for 3+ months...but it was still a decision that some combination of Motorola/Verizon made, and I am still free to criticize that decision. That is not what was sold to us when the phone came out. The original press release from Verizon in October said "Upgradable to Android 5.0 Lollipop". Nobody reads that to mean "we're going to wait 5 months before we start work on the fourth major release of Lollipop, with hopes to release it to users before fall 2015."

EDIT: I meant to say "fall 2015" in the last line, not fall 2016.

I think your analysis is pretty good. Still, given 5.1.1 is now rolling to devices it does not explain why we are still waiting  for  5.1. You would think this phone would have been at the top of their list, not a 2013 track phone.

my guess is they still can't  get the AC to work. May never figure it out. Lesson I learned a long  time ago - hard to fix bad hardware in software.

That's not actually correct. I kind of wish it was at this point, but it's
not.

OK, I understand the SOT now. I did not realize that I could tap each item to get details.

I am at 1d 6h 27m on battery, 47% left.

SOT of 3h 13m at max brightness and 42% of total.

WiFi has been on for 18h 52m and 7% of total.

Amazing! You are doing great if you can squeak the advertised run time out of the Turbo. I shudder to think how often I would be charging if I had gone the X2 route instead of the Turbo. This way I can handily make a day without ever having to look for a charger.

I don't have any insider knowledge. I know that  I saw a post by David Schuster that stated what I said. I cannot find that post, but I clearly remember it.

I have also never stated that people shouldn't criticize the decisions of Moto/Verizon. That is one of the best things about this forum is that you can do precisely that. I am also free to state my opinion as well. It makes for a great discussion. Your thinking is no more wrong than mine. winksmiley

Agreed. I'm glad this forum is here, even if Motorola employee sightings here happen roughly as often as Loch Ness monster sightings. There are a lot of companies (in this industry and others) that are quick to shut things down as soon as the discussion turns remotely negative toward them.

Please remember that this forum was designed to be a user help user forum. Moto Employees don't read every comment, but will get involved when needed. The MotoXprts point the employees in the direction that needs interaction. They also read and interact on their own as well. Primarily, though, this is an owner help owner format. Hope this helps.

  1. Not released publicly.

  2. Unlikely as it has not been release yet and they can not even get 5.x out the door.

You can obtain news on the turbo from a cited reliable sources.

A spokesperson from Motorola said last week, on Twitter and Google + that the 5.1.1 update for the Turbo was in lab testing and going well. I really don't think they would scrap it at this point and wait for M. That seems counterintuitive to me anyway. M probably won't hit official channels until sometime this fall.

Meh. They scrapped  5.0 why not do it again. 5.1 looks like august  best case so 6.0 in Sept ain't  much worse.
