Maybe we'll hear some news after the 19th, when the Nexus 6 is available for walk in purchase. Just keeping my fingers crossed.

I had heard that Moto dropped 5.0.x work on the turbo when 5.1 showed up on Android one phones and started working on that.  Now that the Nexus 6 has dropped on big red I expect that the delays will be resolved soon and that we may get the update by the beginning of April l although if I got a notice of a system update on April 1st I would think it was some cruel April fools day joke

I had heard that BMW was working on a $5 car, too. Holds about as much weight as what you heard. ;-)

Truth is nobody knows. Or if they do they're not telling.

BTW - is it as incomprehensible to anyone else as it is to me that these Motorola forums don't work very well on mobile devices?? Another question for another day. ;-)

Okay so N6 is out on Verizon now with 5.1,where the heck is our update? The N6 and the Turbo are identical except for screen size. Just ship us what's on the N6. I have all the VoLTE fixes and have been very patient. It's time for a surprise.

If you're using the stock Chrome browser you can select "Request desktop site" from the 3 dot menu in the upper right hand corner. It actually makes posting here bearable. I wouldn't mind a $5 Beemer... Lol wink

Many differences here as well. The Devs don't have to replace or fix problems that are associated with their work. They will go as far as they can to help, but are not responsible for anything that happens to your phone. The manufacturer has to worry about what happens to the millions of phones that these updates are going on. If something bad happens than they are responsible for every one of those phones. That is the biggest difference.

The devs can put out something that still has major bugs, like no wifi or camera doesn't work, and the manufacturer cannot do that. You are talking about apples to oranges. There is no comparison.

I would very gladly trade my warranty for the bootloader unlock key.

Those two phone are not identical. There is different software on each one. We will probably never know why it is taking them so long. I personally think that it might be something like Verizon decided that it would be the test subject for HD calling. If that is the case then they wouldn't be able to update the phone until after their testing was done.

I am NOT saying that is what happened, but I am saying that there could very well be a simple explanation as to why it hasn't been updated. That is the question that Motorola/Verizon will probably never answer. Their policy is to be tight lipped. We can only speculate and wonder why.

I choose to not be angry about it, because the phone works so well for me that I can sit back and just wait. This attitude helps to keep my blood pressure under control.

The new functionality, which Verizon said would be deployed was VoLTE/Advanced Calling, was sent in December and updated in Feb. This functionality was going to get baked into 5.1 so why would they update the Turbo, removing this new functionality that Verizon promised the phone would get soon after it was released?

View original

I doubt they would. Even if the Turbo gets 5.0.2, rather than 5.1, VoLTE would obviously still be there (they would never take it away once it's there... it's too high a priority on their service roadmap). It would just be using the library that Moto built (and is on the Turbo now), rather than the baked in stuff in 5.1. And if it is updated to 5.1, then they're likely use it rather than their own library. Either way, VoLTE's not going away.

One reason that they would roll out a functionality update like this is to ramp up use of VoLTE, rather than flood everything all at once.

Very true granted with hope that the libraries didn't need anything extra to work with 5.0.X over 4.4.4. I'm hoping that since they have only had the recently deployed libraries running for 3ish weeks now that they haven't got all testing done and have found its easier to just go to 5.1, since my guess is the jump from 4.4.4 to 5.0.X is about the same as 4.4.4 to 5.1 as far as changes for the hardware, but that's just me being hopeful. laugh

I would have loved to have a Nexus phone, but this one is just way too big for me to use comfortably. I was an original Verizon Galaxy Nexus user, so after that experience I never thought there would be another Nexus on Verizon officially. To be honest, I think the Turbo is what the new Nexus should have been minus capacitive buttons. Everybody was jealous when they heard the specs of the Turbo compared to the Nexus 6, and I heard many also say this is what the Nexus should have been. All I really want that the Nexus 6 has is root access. I would like to be able to pinpoint the cause of what is keeping my phone awake from time to time with Wakelock Detector and Greenify, and to do backups with Titanium. Things I think every Android phone should be able to do without having to get superuser access.
