Using Droid Turbo as a TV remote control

2014-12-22, 13:10 PM

Is anyone using their Droid Turbo as a remote control for their TV? If so, which App are you using ,and how well does it work?

Thanks

I don't believe the turbo has an IR blaster so it will not work as a TV remote in that case.

I use Comcast's X-1 Remote on my Turbo, with an X-1 DVR. The DVR and its own remote use WiFi, so the Turbo app works fine, but only for those functions that are completed by addressing the DVR via WiFi. For example, the TV volume and on/off switch are still controlled via IR, so the Android app can't control volume or switch the TV on or off. But it does virtually all the other remote functions via the DVR, albeit using three somewhat clumsy screens.

Still, it beats trying to find the remote when it's at the other end of the couch and you're a stubborn couch potato.

I use and have been using for about a year a Logitech Harmony Smart Control and their Android app. Excellent piece of Tech.

I also use the Xfinity Remote app on my Droid Trubo, and agree that it has clumsy screens. I turned on the "voice command" option on the X-1 DVR and the voice control icon in the app activated itself. It's not as good with voice commands as Xfinity's X-11 voice remote, but it comes in handy at times.
