No File Manager?

2013-09-08, 5:39 AM

Am I the only one missing the native file manager app like the Bionic had?  Will there be an update that includes one?  I find it difficult to do some things since I have no access to the file system.  There should be one...

There are multiple file management apps on the Play Store that I think you will find to fit your needs. I can recommend Astro File Manager. It is a very feature rich app that will easily let you manipulate your files any way that you need to.

You can also just search the Play store for "file manager" and you will see a ton of results for you to peruse at your convenience. HTH

Thanks!  I know about the alternatives.  I've used them in the past, and I've found the native app that came with the Bionic way better, at least for me.  So I'm hoping they release a native file manager app for the Droid Maxx.

Don't count on it. Google is pushing Motorola to be closer to stock Android. So, all of Moto's custom apps are starting to disappear. Sorry.

I also like Astro, but I've found that there is an app pair that works incredibly well for me.

FolderSync: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dk.tacit.android.foldersync.full

FolderSync does an absolutely fantastic job of managing syncing pairs of folders on your device and in 'the cloud' (whatever you define that to be)

and

Root Explorer: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.speedsoftware.rootexplorer

Root Explorer doesn't require root, it just does 'more' if you have it (I don't), but it has built-in text file browse/edit capabilities and (for me) a better GUI for true file structure browsing and access.

I still have the old version of Astro on my Bionic, and I love it.

The new version (about a year old now) that I have on the Nexus 7 is very pretty, but much less useful.  Along with the prettier interface, they dropped essential (to me) functionality.

I've found several other file managers that work much better, in particular FX.

my 2 cents (probably not worth even 2...) is ES file explorer.

works on the device, lan connections, cloud connections (drive, dropbox, etc). plus other fun stuff.  No idea how it is free with all the features

Thought I'd give an update.  The file manager built in Quickoffice is pretty useful for moving files around and sharing them.

I am using File Manager and it seems to work well for my purposes.  There are a ton of them, so I guess it comes down to which one you pick, then like.
