Unlocking the bootloader for Droid Ultra/MAXX

I am a member of XDA forums. There are a lot of owners who would like to unlock their Droid Ultra/MAXX.  Much to our despair only the Developer option of the phone has the option to be unlocked. When looking at the list of phones eligible phones for unlocking I noticed the only the Ultra/MAXX required the Dev. version. So I seek to have the option to have my MAXX unlocked. Why do all the other phones not require it to be the Developer version? They are a couple generations behind the new phones. So why hold us back? I sought a petition to have to option be made available. Instead I was asked to join the Feedback Network and create a post. Does anyone else agree with me on having the option made available to us for unlocking our phones?

Re: Unlocking the bootloader for Droid Ultra/MAXX

The minute you talk "Droid," you're talking Verizon, and on Verizon, only the developer editions have an unlockable bootloader.  The Pure Edition of the 2014 X,  a  GSM model, can be unlocked, but it can't run on Verizon.  There was a developer edition of the 2013 X on Verizon, but not the 2014 X on Verizon.

Beginning to see a pattern here?   surprise

Moving to proper forum - Moto MAXX and Droid MAXX are 2 different phones.

I am seeing the pattern. But I don't see Verizon having issues with older phones having the capability to be unlocked regardless of the edition. Especially when they don't even sell them anymore.

Re: Unlocking the bootloader for Droid Ultra/MAXX

You need to take that up with Verizon. The phone has their brand on it, and Moto built it to their specs. I don't think that the age of the phone negates the contractual agreement between Verizon and Moto.

Additionally, phones with a locked boot loader that are not able to be unlocked, have never had a work around. There has never been a magic code that changed the behavior of these phones. They were designed to stay locked.

They have never allowed their phones to be unlocked. AT&T phones have locked bootloader as well.

If you want an unlocked bootloader you either buy a developer edition or buy a non-carrier branded phone. Only the developer edition still have the warranty intact after unlocking the boot loader.
