All sorts of Widget Issues after GB Update

2011-08-07, 11:09 AM

After I installed latest update, I started having a bunch of issues on my X. Luckily, I don't have reboot issues BUT,

1. Social Networking widget does not receive updates, maybe every other day I will receive "old" updates)

2. News widgets does not receive updates at all.

3. Syncing icon doesn't go away

4. Mail accounts update sporadically (but receive all email at once)

I tried rebooting the phone, remove/add accounts, wipe cache partition, and none seemed to help at all.

I don't know if anybody can help me, but this is getting really frustrating.

Looks to me like you tried everything that I would have tried before trying a Factory data reset. This may bring some relief to your problems. If you try this I would like to suggest that you do this from the recovery mode and reset the phone like 4-6 times in a row. The recovery mode is the same place that you wipe cache partition.

I have had luck with problems getting cleared with multiple resets where just one reset hasn't worked. It can't hurt in any event. One final note is that you should remember this will clear all user data and bring the phone back to out of the box condition. Hope this helps.

Did you try removing the widgets from the screen and re-adding them?

Thanks for the answers.

Mikey, yes, i did try removing and adding the widgets back. It didn't work either.

It sounds like I need to do a factory reset to my hi-tech paperweight. Is there anything that I (need to/can) do to preserve the apps? Not that I have a lot of them but it would be easier if there was an automated tool that would bring them back after reset.

Google saves your apps and they will redownload after you do your factory data reset.  However, I hope you're not too attached to those Angry Birds scores because they are gone.  I would also download app brain and sync your phone to it just in case.  Or you can try App Dragon App Lister to send an email to yourself of your installled apps.  This is just a list, App Brain will actually help you reinstall if needed.

Re: All sorts of Widget Issues after GB Update

I have had real issues with the Motorola Messaging Widget after the GB update on my Droid Pro over the weekend. I am also experiencing degraded battery life, but the real issue is the Messaging widget. I have two Active Sync accounts and one POP3 account. If I get a POP3 message or a text message the widget starts showing messages from all of the accounts. But if i have cleared the POP3 or text message, the widget is frozen or non responsive.

I have done multiple battery pulls and deleted and re-added the widget. Nothing solves the problem.

Any ideas?

Is there a 3rd party widget that handles Active Sync and POP3 and text messaging?

For what its worth, the issue related to the Messaging Widget is resolved for me by deleting and re-adding the Active Sync account. Battery Life is now at least 'normal' again as well.

Factory reset really helps after an update. It's a pain, but helps.
