Re: DROID X: Issues with Exchange corporate sync discussed here

2010-08-06, 4:59 AM

Hello,

I am having problems setting up exchange corporate e-mail with the Droid X. I apologize in advance if this is a stupid question. However, This is my first android phone. I was using a Blackberry.I spoken to IT and they indicated that exchange activesync isn't activated on the server. They also told me that they do not support my phone.  They said that the only way for me to setup e-mail on the phone is most likely via a 3rd party application or via owa.

I really don't feel like spending 20 dollars out of my pocket on an application. Is there any way to push or received e-mails to droid like the blackberry? I really don't want to return the phone and go back to using a blackberry like the rest of my co-workers.

Thanks,

Frank

It sounds like you have an IT department that's stuck in the past. I don't

know of a way around that if they only support blackberry's (through a

blackberry server / bes). They may have compliance issues with hipaa or

other standards or high security requirements that are holding them up

though instead of just not feeling like it, but if owa is supported without

issues with Android then I doubt it.

You may be able to find a 3rd party app that syncs with owa but I don't know

of one.

Hey Matt. Thanks for the update and a offer of a Touchdown workaround until the update. My native 2.1 email app is doing the job so far. I found this article  http://goo.gl/vbsy  which is the first I have seen to actually mention any issues with the X. Matt is specifically mentioned in the article even though it's a bit satirical with regard to the "late summer" update timeframe.

@clstaton,

We have a fix for the notification issue and it will be delivered beginning of September.

I agree Push needs to work flawlessly.  It sounds like from your previous post that you have all the settings right. Are you sure that the delay is not a symptom of the notifications issue (i.e. you don't see the notification therefore you assume that the emails isn't there)?  For instance, are watching the inbox or the messaging widget and comparing it side by side with another device?

Can you provide me with your server version (Exchange 2003? 2003 SP2? 2007? Google) and system software version (1.13.604?)  Can you confirm one more time that Background Sync is enabled?

Are you an IT?  We may need to ask you if we can use a test account on the server, so we can set it up on our devices that have special logging software on it.

I am just wondering reading this issues with exchange corporate, I am experiencing similar issues with my personal email, the emails are getting through but I am not being notified, I would reffresh my inbox only to find out that I have new emails!! Will the froyo 2.2 update address this issue with personal emails as well and not only with business/corporate emails??

They are both handled through the same email app. The fix should address both the exchange connectivity and the notification issues...if I read the update from Matt correctly. There is an offer of a workaround using Touchdown until the update if you look in the thread regarding exchange notifications. Here

Thanks. I hope they could address this issue. I have been spoiled by my

blackberry.

Re: DROID X: Issues with Exchange corporate sync discussed here

I can say in my case the emails are definitely not making it to the phone. The longest I have seen so far is about 11 hours. The phone was in standby from about 9:30pm until 8:30 – 9:00am the following morning. When I turned the phone on and launched the email app the last email was received at 9:24pm and after a short while all messages received after 9:30pm came in. I noticed after turning the phone on and launching the email app the sync icon starts spinning almost immediately so it is acting as if the sync is turned off while the phone was in standby and it starts again when the phone is turned back on.

I am in IT and can help with a test account if needed.

Hi Matt,

I have a similar situation.  I can setup my Exchange account, however, I cannot recieve my email unless my Outlook client is opened on my desktop PC.  I tested a Blackberry and Palm device, and both devices work perfectly.  Do you know if the 2.2 will address this issue.  I run Exchange 2003.  SSL is enabled and a certificate (DigiSign) is installed.  I am the IT Manager, so I can setup a test account if need be.

BTW:  I appreciate your response to these posts.
