Google Search "hangs" after two words entered

2011-08-15, 19:56 PM

I have had this problem with my Droid X from day 1. Updates to Froyo and Gingerbread have not fixed the problem. I have "suggested matches" turned off in my Google Account profile. Every time I enter a second search word, it "hangs" for as long as 30 seconds before I can enter the third word. Has anyone else seen this problem? I search for info from time to time and either no one talks about it or I'm the only one with the problem (maybe I'm using the wrong search keywords).

I switched to Yahoo! search for a few months after the Froyo update. Interestingly, I had "suggested searches" turned ON for Yahoo! and never had to wait no matter how many words I entered (and suggestions were offered almost instantly). If I could launch Yahoo! Search from the hard button, I would be using it full time.

Try removing Apps from the list of searchable items. I had a similar problem and that solved it for me.

Try this:

Press the search button, then tap the menu button and choose settings. Tap Searchable items. Select only those you will use the most, uncheck the rest.

My searches used to hang until I dropped my searchable item list to about 9 services. Now it works just fine.

Thank you for the reply. Unfortunately, I only have 4 searchable items: Web, Apps, Contacts, and Voice Search. I don't have an excessive number of Contacts or Apps. Also, under Google Search options, Web Suggestions, Use My Location, and Search History are all off (unchecked).
