512 MB of RAM??!!

2011-05-18, 19:24 PM

Really Motorola? Are you serious? What good does the Dual Core processor do me for multitasking if the limit is still going to be RAM?

Programs get killed in the background already on my Droid X. These dual cores are going to be choaked by the RAM.

Furthermore we know that we can count on Motorola/Verizon to add tons of bloatware, so I have no doubt the memory footprint of the DX2 ROM will eat up even more RAM than does the current DX. I predict there is even less available memory on the DX2 vs the DX.

I don't even want to think about the performance of the HDMI mirroring trying to run on the phone while multitasking: I predict lag.

I'm just so angry that the DX2 is a huge Failboat. I love the feel of the device in my hand, I just wanted another flagship performance and not this [removed] redux.

rant/

I was so blown away by the revelation of a measly 512 MB of RAM that I forgot about the complaints I've had since the first leaked picture.

NO FRONT FACING CAMERA?!?!?!?

What the hell were they smoking when they made that decision??

I bought the Droid X knowing that it was too early for video chat. At the time there were 2 phones total with FFC so I knew I'd never be able to actually use video chat because no one I knew had a compatible phone. But now every phone with a pulse has a FFC and video chat software is starting to actually work.

Just bone-head move after bone-headed move.

The ONLY way I will buy the Droid X2 is if the bootloader is unlocked(or is cracked). We all know the chances of that happening....

Motorola unquestionably makes the best cell radios and cell hardware. Which is why I'm so disappointed that I can't allow myself to spend my hard earned money on another Motorola device... for the foreseeable future.

The X2 doesn't have 4G either, so what would the sense of having a front facing camera do?  Try video chatting on 3G.  It wouldn't exactly be a great experience.  I don't and won't have 4G for probably a couple of years so this phone will do me just fine.  I won't miss the ffc at all.

joelbon's response ties into the "point" that the X2 was intended to be an improved X.  There are numerous examples of this related to other devices as well: the D2 over the D, the HTC Incredible 2 over the Incredible (which isn't 4G either).  Cell phone evolution has certainly not peaked and there is a market for incrementally improved models.  If the current models don't impress as much as buyer might like, they only need wait a matter of a few months for other choices. - MarkC

Sorry, but one rant thread is enough -- the phone isn't even launched yet. Please continue on RANT: Is this the best that Moto Can do?

Thanks.

Please do not PM me - if you have issues, search the forums for threads on your topic and post there, or start a new thread. Thanks!

The X2 seems to be managing RAM as well as the X does. I received mine on Friday. Regarding front facing camera: I personally don't want one and hope that there are high end phone options without it in the future. I can't imagine or will dread the day we are all making face calls, as good as I do look (Ha)!!

What good is FFC on a 3G phone? That's simple WI-FI. Why do u think the 3G I Phone has FFC?  I hate ATTs service but they r getting the cool android phones now. The Atrix and the infuse r both even cheaper than the droid redux.

I like the task manager feature of the phone.  i can set it auto kill apps after the screen has timed out. So things like Blockbuster and VZ NAV aren't running. It realy helps to keep programs from sucking up memory.
