Layer 3 routed sub interfaces

2020-10-08, 17:35 PM

Hi everyone,

Does anyone know if Layer 3 routed sub-interfaces feature will be added to the CNOS family? I think this is one of the biggest missing features in the CNOS family and you're only able to make one interface routed.

Hello MikkelN,

If you are looking for multiple routable interfaces you can do this through the vlan interfaces. Adding an IP address on each interface and make sure ip forwarding is enabled. This is the switch equivalent of sub-interfaces in my opinion.

Page 477 explains this a little more.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Hi JVO, The problem with vlan interfaces, is that you're pushing your Layer 2 boundary, which is avoided by using a routed port, and having sub interfaces with a routed port, makes a lot more sense. So this also means i cannot have more VRFs on an interface without pushing my L2 boundary.

MikkelN,

Sorry for the delay on this thread. At this time there are no plans to add sub-interfaces to CNOS.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.
