NE2572 Unable to Set Hardware Profile Custom Command?

2021-05-03, 19:31 PM

Setting up a replacement NE2572 rackswitch and updated its firmware to 10.10.4.0 to match another switch in same rack.  In my notes I have commands to preset several ports to 10G speed. The commands are:

hardware profile portmode custom 4x10G ethernet x/x-xx

Unfortunately I'm either missing something or the command no longer works? When I type in hardware profile and hit TAB I do not see custom as an option. I only see breakout and forwarding-table-mode.

If I choose hardware profile breakout it shows 25G-4x and 50G-2x but nothing similar to my notes previous 4x10G.

What am I missing to set the needed ports to 10G speeds?

Re:NE2572 Unable to Set Hardware Profile Custom Command?

Hello,

Beginning in 10.10.X code you no longer use the "hardware profile portmode" command to change speed. Instead you just use the "speed" command on the interface. The following provides current (10.10 and later) operation and restriction rules for NE2572 SFP28 ports:

! =====================

> SFP28 ports default to 25G
> To set the speed use the interface command “speed 10000” or “speed 25000” (default)
> Speed changes no longer require reload of switch to take effect
> SFP28 ports support 1G, 10G or 25G
>>> No support for 1G on ports 1-8 of NE2572
> SFP28 ports are combined into 12 consecutive 4-port groups:
> Ports 1-4, 5-8, 9-12, 13-16, 17-20, 21-24, 25-28, 29-32, 33-36, 37-40, 41-44, and 45-48
>>> The SFP28 port speed must be the same (10 Gbps or 25 Gbps) across all ports in each 4-port group. For example to set ports 1/1-4 to 10G from config t mode:
 int ethernet 1/1-4
    speed 10000
>>> If you try to set just a single port different from the other 4, the command will be rejected
> To use SFP28 in 1G mode, set port to 10G (as shown above) and then insert 1G transceiver
>>> Remember that ports 1-8 on the NE2572 do NOT support 1G
>>> No support for auto negotiation if 1G optic is installed
>>> If using a combination 1G/10G transceiver, it will ONLY operate in 10G mode on NE2572

Let me know if you have any issues or questions.

Thanks, Matt
