Re: Problems configuring vlag G8052 and ESX

Hello irotaeche,

Owing to agreements in place after Lenovo acquired the SystemX division of IBM, only switches delivered on or after Oct 1st, 2014 are eligible for a one-way upgrade from 7.X to 8.X, and only after receiving approval based on proof received on delivery date. If you can provide documentation to this effect we can look at options for going from 7.X to 8.X. With that said, it needs to be noted that all switches (7.X or 8.X) will receive all fixes for bugs and issues. The only difference is that 8.X code has also received some feature enhancements that will not be going into 7.X.. For reference, the latest 7.X code for the G8052 is 7.11.15 and can be downloaded from the following link:
https://delivery04.dhe.ibm.com/sar/CMA/SNA/08ddj/0/G8052-7.11.15.0.zip

Thanks, Matt

Thanks for your reply mslavin,

A direct upgrade from 7.2.2 to 8.3 is possible?

Thanks

Re: Problems configuring vlag G8052 and ESX

Hello,

The actual process would not be a direct upgrade, as there is a special non-published interim version of code required during this migration process from 7.X to 8.X. To perform this migration requires a Lenovo support engineer to conduct the upgrade, since it is non-standard. And none of this can happen without first confirming the switch was delivered on or after Oct 1st, 2014 and going through an approval process. For switches delivered prior to Oct 1st 2014 the only upgrade path is to the latest release of 7.X code. Going from 7.2.2 to the latest 7.X release is a direct upgrade (no interim release required).

Hope this helps.

Thanks, Matt

Re: Problems configuring vlag G8052 and ESX

Hi mslavin,

customer confirmed that G8052's were purchased before Oct 1st 2014, so their only way to upgrade is to a 7.11.15.

Their only concern is if they will continue to have support on version 7.11.15 without needing to upgrade to a major version, i mean 8.x?

Thanks.

irotaeche.

Re: Problems configuring vlag G8052 and ESX

Hello,

No worries, both trains of code (7.X and 8.X) will receive all fixes and be fully supported until end of life of the product. The only difference will be that the 7.X code will be downloadable from ibm.com, and the 8.X code will be downloadable from lenovo.com.

Thanks, Matt
