Weird results from "sh process cpu history" and "clear cpu"

See below to see what I am talking about, but basically eveyr time I issue the command "clear cpu" and then do a "show process cpu history" the output changes and adds one line.  The new line looks like the system is at 100 or so per cent utilization, but if I do a "show process cpu" or whataever nothing is really going on - all of the numbers are very low.

Can anyone explain this?

The "show process cpu history" command seems to be useless.

Re: Weird results from "sh process cpu history" and "clear cpu"

Hello,

Can you share what version code you are running? Also, is there a specific goal you are looking to accompolish (some issue you are troubleshooting, or some infomration you are trying to gather for some purpose)?

Thanks, Matt

Re: Weird results from "sh process cpu history" and "clear cpu"

Software Version 7.7.27 (FLASH image2), active configuration.
Boot kernel version 7.7.27

This all started because a monitoring application (Whatsup) was reporting high cpu utilization on on a pair of switches.

We are trying to determine if there really is something on the switch causing very high utilization.

Re: Weird results from "sh process cpu history" and "clear cpu"

Hi ,

I see similar symtomps on my G8332 switch in the lab although all its ports are down except MGT port. so I am not sure if these statistics are accurate. see below output from the lab.

I have sent email to sustaining group to find out this behaviour and will get back to you once get update from them.

I can only tell you a better way to see the CPU utilization is using the command “show proc cpu” that has 1sec, 5sec, 1min and 5 min history.

Re: Weird results from "sh process cpu history" and "clear cpu"

Right, and "sh proc cpu" shows no problem.

Interesting.
