3G modem for Lenovo W520

Hello.

I plan to buy Lenovo W520 427637U. As I understand it have cellular antenna and SIM card reader, but have no 3G modem. Can you advise with 3G modem selection for working via WWAN? Part number will be very good.

Hi sergun,

Here's the Hardware Maintenance Manual. Page 113 lists the cards.

Re: 3G modem for Lenovo W520

Sergey,

A search of the four cards that will go in your machine didn't bring up Beeline as a carrier in any of them.

That's not to say that Beeline won't work.

It looks like if any of those cards will work for Beeline, it will be the Ericsson F221, Part number 60Y3279.

you'll probably have to get ahold of Beeline and see if that card is supported.

Erisccon F5221, Part number 6073267 looks like it is for Malaysia.

If that card isn't supported, you might want to ask them if the Gobi-3000, Part number 6073257 is supported, but I doubt it is.

Re: 3G modem for Lenovo W520

Page 74 of the Hardware Maintenance Manual shows where it goes.  It's under the keyboard.  The DIMM slots don't have anything to do with it.

Those part numbers are all supported and are for the W520. The card has to be a Lenovo branded card. A generic card won't work.  The card has to have the Lenovo FRU part number on it or your machine might not boot and give you an error.

You will also have to find out whether that card is supported by Beeline. Those cards are expensive and I would hate to see you get the wrong card for your carrier.

You might want to give a call to Lenovo service in your country . They might be able to tell you exactly which card is supported.
