My Lenovo X60 (1706-C92) cannot detect the
USB 2.0 Super Multi-Burner Drive with Lightscribe (41N5630).
I am also unable to find the driver on the Lenovo support website.
All I have been able to find is the driver update, which is of no help at all since it cannot detect the drive.
Please help!

Hi, I have the same problem with my x40 and the USB 2.0 Super Multi-Burner Drive.
I am using the same one on my x41, both running with xp SP3. It only detects correctly on the x42. On the x40 ist is detected as unknown device.
Where can I find the appropriate driver?
I have installed the latest updates of Lenovo and MS xp. It used to wok about 6 month ago. Deinstalling the device and reinstalling has the same result.
Help would be much appreciated.
Cheers

Same problem here. Using an X60s with a Lenovo Lightscribe USB 2.0 Multiburner. The FRU number on the drive is 41N5630. I can't install the software package linked below. I get the "This program can only be used with recording hardware that is not attached to this computer" message.

Is this a bug?

It doesn't appear that Lenovo give a crap. They get your money for a high end drive and offer absolutely no support to get it to work. I never had problems like this with Dell.

Hi Explorer386, and welcome to the Lenovo User Community!
You assume correctly, this is a user-to-user help community, moderated by volunteers like me. Although employees do fly by from time to time, it is not a monitored Lenovo support channel.
Have you reported your problem to Lenovo support?
What happens when you install the software from the CD included with the drive?

My drive does not come with a CD.
Either it detects or it doesnt.
It drives me crazy.
What I tried was to power it with the external power, by which then my X60 started miraculously to detect it. Don't ask me why!!! I have no idea.

If it detects when you plug in external power, perhaps the X60 USB port is not providing enough power. Do you have anything else plugged in to the X60 USB ports? Does it make a difference which port you use?

I didn't get a CD with my drive initially. I finally got a CD from corporate purchasing 4 months after I got the drive. By then I had tried to download the drivers from the Lenovo website with no success.
I have uninstalled every reference to a CD drive including deleting the references from the registry and the install disc still not recognize the drive for what it is.
As it stands I can I can use the drive to read only by telling the computer that it is USB_SATA_Burner3 Device and using a Windows driver. With this configuration I can't write to the drive let alone use the lightscribe. Without forcing this configuration I can't use the drive at all.
I spent hours on the phone with support with someone who appeared to know less about computers than me. I keep hoping someone will find a solution and post it here.

@ Explorer386, is your Thinkpad an X60?
