OneLink Pro & DisplayPort 1.2 - Anyone got this to work?

2014-02-10, 18:00 PM

I have two Dell U2713H both with DP 1.2 enabled. I can use monitor 1 but Windows 8.1 refuse to enable the second monitor. Getting "The display settings could not be saved. Please try a difference combination of display settings." I can't tell if it's the monitors or OneLink Pro that i'm having trouble with.

Connection path: ThinkPad Yoga -> OneLink Pro -> DisplayPort Out -> Monitor 1 DP In -> Monitor 1 DP Out -> Monitor 2 MiniDP In

Looking at your connection path, it seems you have "daisy chained" both monitors to the Displayport on the Onelink Pro Dock. However, the manual doesn't mention any support for daisy chaining on the Pro Docks' DP.

Try hooking up the second monitor on the DVI-port of the Pro Dock by using a DVI to [any port on your Dell]-adapter. It should work, as long as you keep it to the max. supported resolutions for driving two monitors at the same time on the Pro Dock (I think that is 1920x1200 on both monitors, but I'm not sure; always check manual).

the OneLink Pro doesn't support 1.2 standard, so daisy chaining doesn't work.

Then what is this message about "Full Dual video output is supported on ThinkPads with DisplayPort 1.2. ThinkPads with DisplayPort 1.1 (ThinkPad Edge E431/E531/S431/S531) have some limitations with video output configurations" shown here: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/product-and-parts/detail.page?DocID=PD029981

I also wondered about this... The Thinkpad Yoga itself doesn't have a display port. But the chipset should support dp 1.2. So shouldn't it work with daisy chaining on the Onelink Pro together with the Yoga? It sounds like it should in the link that ziggie posteds.

I wonder if it can be ziggies screens that doesn't support Media Stream Transport. We had that problem with a Surface Pro 2. The screens had a MST port for daisy chaining... but they didn't work. When we tested with a couple of newer Dell screens with the Surface it worked flawlessly.

Apparently some screen producers equip their screens with a MST port but still only support the DP 1.1 standard.

@Jin Li

Is it a Yoga you're using with the Onelink Pro? Cause the link that ziggie posted says that "Full Dual video output is supported on ThinkPads with DisplayPort 1.2. ThinkPads with DisplayPort 1.1 (ThinkPad Edge E431/E531/S431/S531) have some limitations with video output configurations".

So basically it tells us that it is up to the host computer what kind of DP standard it will be.

i see. I tested the OneLink Pro with my X1 carbon and Yoga with a U2913 and a U2713h, the dp passthrough doesn't work.

@Jin Li

Have you upgraded your OneLink Pro docks firmware or done anything extra to get it to work?

I am really struggling to get the dock to work with any external monitors at all with my E540.

Thanks
