Port replicator and WQHD resolution

2014-02-05, 7:59 AM

Hello,

I have a Lenovo ThinkPad Port Replicator Series 3 with USB 3.0 (433615W), with my Thinkpad t431s.

I wonder if this port replicator would support external WQHD screens.

the overview and users guide for this port replicator dont say if this port replicator supports such a resolution.

according to t431s user guide, this machine supports 2560*1600 external resolution.

but I'm afraid I won't get this max resolution if i plug the screen on the port replicator, I cant get reliable information about that. Is it just a replicator or is it restrained concerning resolution?

thanks

The dock you have can support one WQXGA or WQHD screen through the displayport (next to the DVI).

You can hot dock/undock the laptop with it on.

port replicator only has a VGA port so it won't support the WQHD screen. You need a ThinkPad Series 3 dock with Displayport to support the WQHD or WQXGA resolution.

ok, thanks for you answer. maybe "port replicator" was the wrong term.

actually, I have this:

I have 2 docks like that at my office. P/N I have are 0B56232 and SD20A23326 (FRU: 04Y2072 and 04W3587)

the reference (433615W) mentionned on my previous message was wrong.

I have the same port between the yellow port and the white port, and it looks like a display port (?)

and, I have just an other question about these docks: do I have to shut down or hibernate the machine before taking them off the dock (with usb devices plugged on the dock)? I think so but I'm not sure.. thanks :)
