ThinkPad Mini Dock Plus Series 3 [170W], works with L530?

2013-08-22, 12:25 PM

I've had a W520 along with a ThinkPad Mini Dock Plus Series 3 docking station since july 2011. Now my girlfriend has bought a L530, which we want to use with the same docking station.

However I'm not sure if it's compatible? The connection looks the same, but my laptop (W520) and the docking station uses the 170W PSU. The L530 laptop was shipped with a 65W (!) power supply. Will it matter? Can't find any document  on Lenovo.com that states it is compatible though...

The docking station is the USB2 variant with eSata instead of USB3.

Would be great if someone working for Lenovo could confirm it's ok to use it!

Thanks in advance! :)

yes it will work with your L530, the laptop will only draw as much power as it needs to use (170 watts is the max power output, it will output to the exact amount that your laptop needs).

eSATA on that dock wonm't work with the L530. The new model of this dock has the eSATA replaced with a single USB 3.0 port.
