ThinkPad Thunderbolt 3 Workstation Dock Support HDR through the DisplayPorts?

2019-03-05, 7:26 AM

Just wondering if the ThinkPad Thunderbolt 3 Workstation Dock supports 4k HDR at 60hz through the DisplayPorts if the PC itself would of supported it through its USB-C/DisplayPort when directly connected. Are the on dock displays using the DisplayPort alt mode from the USB-C thunderbolt port its plugged into? Or is plugging a device into the Docks display port inherintly different that plugging it into that same USB-c port?

I tested the HDMI so far and saw that it did not work. Computer saw that the display was HDR compatible, but enabling it just caused the screen to go black. Im assuming its due to the HDMI on the docks just being a DisplayPort to HDMI adapter and not some kind of direct HDMI alt mode through the USB-C (computer thinks its a Displayport display puged in). That same display works fine with HDR when plugged directly into the laptops HDMI port. There are active DisplayPort to HDMI adapters that convert DisplayPort to HDMI 2.0b that supposedly work with HDR, im assuming the converter in this dock is only HDMI 2.0a?

I have the same question here... HDMI on the dock does not give HDR signal (NVidia just does not think it can output HDR at all). Have you tried DP on the dock? Does it work? Thanks!
