Hi,

You need to download Thinkpad Trackpoint II software.

Alright, and in this software you can change the fn cntrl key? I dont think so. The software release is from april and I downloaded the software in august without a possibility to change the fn cntrl key.

Re:ThinkPad TrackPoint Keyboard II - Swap Fn and Ctrl?

Add me to the list of very frustrated yet loyal Lenovo fanbase.

I'm having trouble understanding why the layout of on the wireless keyboard would not be consistent with the layout deployed across the laptop fleet. I live and breathe using "Ctrl" shortcuts and this is making it more difficult for me.

Without a solution to swap the "Fn" and "Ctrl" keys I will need to find another keyboard that is consistent with the layouts I have been accustomed to when using my Lenovo laptops.

Is anyone aware of a Lenovo wireless keyboard that has the layout with the "Fn" key on the left of the "Ctrl" key???

What a pity.

Lenovo has made top brand keyboard but ruined it with an Fn key. Why in the first place is Fn key above Ctrl. Most shortcuts need Ctrl key and it is very annoying if Ctrl key is not there where it should be.

Otherwise, I have enjoyed TrackPoint keyboard, as this is much more compact and easier to use than keyboards with a trackpad.

Waiting for a fix to swap Ctrl key and Fn key like it is on integrated keyboard.

Re:ThinkPad TrackPoint Keyboard II - Swap Fn and Ctrl?

Swapped the Ctrl button!... kind of.

I too was extremely frustrated but I already saw it coming. I had the experience of modifying the 1st version of the compact bluetooth keyboard. I did the whole disassembly and conducted paint and all. It took me about 4 hours in total, bit of a headache.

Yesterday my brand new TrackPoint Keyboard II came in. Not to my surprise there no way to swap the Fn&Ctrl keys as I had assumed from reading forums. I bit the bullet and opened it up last night. After 6 hours and a lot of headaches I have the Ctrl button in in proper place. Long story story it's a big job, a fair bit more complicated than the 1st version and I ended up only bringing the the Ctrl button to the Fn button but I wasn't able to get the Fn button to work properly anymore. Once your start snapping those plastic pin that hold the plastic framing around the keys from the keys, there is no going back. After several attempts I gave up. Doesn't matter to me really since I'm always on a thinkpad laptop anyways so if I need the functions keys I have it there. I am EXTREMELY happy with the swapped Ctrl button however. I wouldn't recommend the job but I must admit that it was personally worth it. I absolutely love this keyboard which I'm using right now to type this message.

And I'm also looking to sell the 1st gen with perfectly swapped keys.

Thanks for sharing this. It really does demonstrate the frustration quite well. The fact that they can't fix this via software is infuriating. It completely ruins what would otherwise be an awesome keyboard.

Hey vpham,

thanks for your report.

do you have some more pics by chance?

The plastic pins you mentioned, are those the ones on the back side of the upper part, which hold in place the metal casings?

or what do you mean by no way back?

would it be possible to use thin wire and solder instead of the conductive paint?

if not, what conductive paint did you use?

Edit: before I have enough courage to make alterations on the hardware, I test my workaround :D

This could have been a fantastic keyboard...

It is so frustrating not to be able to swap Fn and Ctrl.

Please, Lenovo, give us an option to swap it!

Glad I checked before I bought it. As a loyal Lenovo customer, I'm used to entering the Bios to switch the FN and CTRL key. Was expecting to be able to do the same for this keyboard.

The same on my side. I can't understand why Lenovo won't add swap of CTRL and FN buttons for Thinkpad Trackpiont Keyboard II. I think that if this function won't be added I will stop using this keyboard because besides Lenovo hardware I am using other "normal" keyboards as well. Costy keyboard with weak support. Shame on Lenovo.
