Re:ThinkPad TrackPoint Keyboard II - Swap Fn and Ctrl?

2021-02-11, 6:23 AM

Another frustrated user here; +1 for this feature.

Some guys already hacked firmware but looks risky to me, to ruin keyboard.

This should be done by Lenovo officially; at least two versions of firmware like it was mentioned;

I just did the risk and followed the instructions AND IT WORKS :)

I have QWERTZ keyboard;

Downloaded this

https://download.lenovo.com/pccbbs/options/tp_compact_usb_kb_with_trackpoint_fw.exe

Then

http://www.flexhex.com/download/

Opened .exe; edited locatictions as mentioned on github;

Run .exe, firmware updates successfully, re-plug keyboard and keys are changed;

I am trying it, but if I want to upgrade the firmware, I get message "Can't Find USB HID Device!!" My keyboard is connected with usb-c cable. Keyboard model number KC-1957. Any idea what I did wrong?

No idea :) Anyhow, I connected it directly to regular USB port to notebook (not USB-C) and I installed this before firmware upgrade https://download.lenovo.com/pccbbs/options/lenovo_enhanced_performance_usb_keyboard2026.exe

KC-1957 is the wireless model. is it possible, that it uses the usb connector only for battery charging and not for communication?

I finally freaked out and returned the bluetooth version to get the usb version and do the Firmware swap like TheYanYan described. Matter of seconds and works well, so Thank You, TheYanYan!

Re:ThinkPad TrackPoint Keyboard II - Swap Fn and Ctrl?

Bumping up thread to show how Lenovo treats customers who bought Thinkpad Trackpint Keyboard II. The issue with no possibility to swap CTRL and FN keys on TTK II is a common one and many users are looking forward to see such option. So far Lenovo has not updated software to this keyboard and the software is dated on Nov 2020. Basically they did nothing about this. I gave up and stopped using this keyboard. I just feel that buying Thinkpad Trackpoint Keyboard II was a huge waste of money.

This issue is still ongoing and I have yet to see an update from Lenovo which addressed the issue. The placement of the CTRL and FN keys in the Lenovo Trackpoint II keboard is an issue which has been noted on various forums and online reviews for this keyboard - all of which note it as a dealbreaker and a huge negative. Most of the customers who have posted on this forum are in pretty big need of a solution, as this is a pretty expensive keyboard. Lenovo may feel as though this is not a big issue, but as such a big investment, the lack of support for this problem is pretty disheartening. Especially when there is a ton of support online which criticises the placement of the CTRL key. I would strongly Lenovo to at least acknowledge the issue and give us some hope that future updates may resolve the issue!

Its absolutely hilarious to me how you guys managed to release an 80$ keyboard without a option out of the box to swap this thing. My T420 had this option in the dam bios. Luckily I'm a dev who doesn't mind cleaning up this mess with some firmware editing with what other users have posted before. This is pretty much a joke not to provide...
