Re: ThinkPad USB-C Dock Gen2 and Dual monitor 2560×1440

I have a ThinkPad USB-C Dock Gen2 connected to a X1 Carbon 6th Gen and Dual Samsung S24H850QFN monitors connected via DisplayPort and I'm tyring to have 2560×1440 resolution to both.

The laptop supports this via USB-C out and HDMI out to the monitors, but with the Gen2 USB-C dock, the 2nd monitor is limited to a lower resolution.

Is there a way to have 2560×1440 resolution on both?

Kevin

Re: ThinkPad USB-C Dock Gen2 and Dual monitor 2560×1440

Were you able to resolve it? Using the USB-C dock, I have one monitor at 2560x1440 and the other won't go higher than 1024x768 (it should be 1920x1080). Both are using DisplayPort.

According to this chart, it seems two monitors can only run at 1920x1080 simultaneously. The more expensive Thunderbolt docks support higher resolutions.

No.  I was able to get 2560x1440 on monitor connected via DP, and the other at 1280x??.  Mine is the Gen2 pn# 40AS0090US - where did you find that spec?  I haven't been able to find that info for this doc.

Re: ThinkPad USB-C Dock Gen2 and Dual monitor 2560×1440

Hi dear customer, USB C Gen2 dock can not support dual monitor 2560X1440, because X1 Carbon 6th Gen is DP1.2 system. but it can support dual monitor 2560X1440 with DP1.4 system attached.

Re: ThinkPad USB-C Dock Gen2 and Dual monitor 2560×1440

Hi,

what does it mean DP1.2 and 1.4 System? I have a X1 Carbon 5th gen and the USB-C gen 2 Dock. 2 x 2k monitors are not working with this dock. Is it because the 5th gen is not a DP1.4 system either?

Patric

Re: ThinkPad USB-C Dock Gen2 and Dual monitor 2560×1440

I have an X1C5 too - I'm struggling to find an exact reference but it seems that via USB-C the X1C5 is DP1.2a (it won't be better than an X1C6 of course). Therefore as Shirleywu and https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/pd029622#USB-C%20dock%20Gen%202 suggest, the dock seems to pass through the video from the system itself (unlike some DisplayLink docks which effectively have their own video card) so the X1C's DP version (1.2 or 1.4) is what is determining the output.

Therefore for X1C Gen 5 & 6 owners that's:

  • 1 monitor at up to 3840x2160@30Hz (presumably high refresh rates for lower resolutions but I haven't found that yet), or,
  • 2 monitors at up to 1920x1080@60Hz, or,
  • 3 monitors... you probably don't want to know :smileysad:

So, from a display perspective, the dock is not giving you any more than connecting cables directly to your X1C (e.g. on HDMI plus a USB-C to DP dongle).

I think X1C5 (&6) via USB-C is display port 1.2a.

Re:ThinkPad USB-C Dock Gen2 and Dual monitor 2560×1440

With T480 and older USB-C Dock (still has VGA) I was able to set 2560x1440 to my new 27 inch ThinkVision and (recommended) 1920x1200 to my older 24 inch monitor.

At first I was only able to get either 1920x1200 to both of the or 2560x1440 + 1024x768 when I was connecting those two separately to the USB-C Dock. Then I noticed that my new ThinkVision monitor had also DV-out and when I connected my old monitor to this port and enabled daisy-chaining from the ThinkVision's settings I am now able to change the resolution of the old 24 inch monitor to 1920x1200 while having the recommended 2560x1440 on my ThinkVision.

ThinkPad USB-C Dock Gen2 (40AS) and Dual monitor 2560×1440 on Lenovo X1 gen 8 (2020) iussues

I'm having a horrible time trying to get this dock working with 2 external monitors at 2560x1440 trough Displayports.

Setup:

Lenovo X1 gen8 (i7, 16gb model: 20u9-0003mx) is up to dat 29th june 2020

Dock is fw updatet to V1.0.5.03171 from 23th March 2020

installed:T hinkPad USB-C Dock Gen 2 Driver (30.63 MB) V1.0.3.03241

That's what we have :

1 - > Laptop monitor, 1920 x 1080, turned of, and lid closed

2 - > DisplayPort to DisplayPort, 2560 x 1440, OK

3 - > DisplayPort to DisplayPort, 2560 x 1440, Not working correctly, can only perform at 1920 x 1080

How do i fix this issues?
