Re:ThinkPad USB-C Dock Gen2 and Dual monitor 2560×1440

As mentioned by @vx_it  above, a Thunderbolt 3 dock would be the fix.

USB-C: Just cos it fits don't mean it works.

Re:ThinkPad USB-C Dock Gen2 and Dual monitor 2560×1440

I had a similar issue, one port would display in 1920x1080, the other would max out at 1600x900.  I went into the Intel Graphics Setting and added a custom resolution of 1920x1080 @ 60Hz (leaving the Underscan and Timing Standard at the defaults) and after saving, I was able to set both monitors to 1920x1080.

This was on a ThinkPad T480 with a USB-C Gen 2 Dock, your mileage may vary.

EDIT: This also opened up the 1680x1050 resolution on the monitor with the issue even though I didn't put that resolution in.  This really seems to be more of an issue with the graphics drivers than the dock.

I believe, the solution is to connect first one using DP and second using HDMI.

Actually, I'm facing the same issue. Will go and by the HDMI now and let you know.

No, the correct solution is to read carefully for which systems the table is valid. Do you own DP1.4 system like the P53, P73 or  P1 Gen2?

Pay close attention to the REMARK column in the table.  I assume you may have a DP1.2 system like a T4x0(s)/T5x0 system. In this case  check the 2nd post in this thread.

Tech-Savvyness does not replace reading the fine manual.

Hi There,

Hi dear customer, USB C Gen2 dock can not support dual monitor 2560X1440, because X1 Carbon 6th Gen is DP1.2 system. but it can support dual monitor 2560X1440 with DP1.4 system attached.

Hi Shirleywu,

I have the same issue using ThinkPad USB-C Dock Gen2 with Lenovo T490s laptop. How can I know if the laptop has DP 1.2 system or DP 1.4 system? I didn't find this info in any of the laptop specs.

Thank you in advance,

Hi MaximR,

As I tried my laptop T490 still supports only DP 1.2 using ThinkPad USB-C Dock Gen2, my dual monitors HP Z24nq can support 2560X1440. if I use one screen is can set to 2560X1440 but if I use a dual-screen is can set only 1920X1080.

I have ordered a T14 Gen 1 AMD Ryzen 7 and will test with dual monitor 2560X1440 again.

@MaximR (or someone else): Do you have any news ?

We would also like to buy some T14 Gen1 AMD with Ryzen 7 4750U and we would like to connect it to dual monitor setups with 2560X1440 ( QHD / WQHD ) each. I tried to figure it out with the followong documents but we are not sure if it will work:

Datasheet for T14 Gen 1 AMD platform: https://psref.lenovo.com/syspool/Sys/PDF/ThinkPad/ThinkPad_T14_Gen_1_AMD/ThinkPad_T14_Gen_1_AMD_Spec.PDF

Informations about ThinkPad USB-C Dock Gen 2 (40AS): https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/pd029622#USB-C%20dock%20Gen%202

Hi DesignElec

So you're talking about the Thunderbolt 3 Gen 2 dock, not the cheaper USB-C one.

Is your monitor this one: https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/pd104220-thinkvision-p27-27-wide-uhd-ips-monitor-overview-and-service-parts ?

If so, it says it's HDMI2.0 + DP1.2. (I was wondering if it was an older HDMI issue, but apparently not).

I suggest you post a new thread about it, so it doesn't get mixed up with the USB-C dock compatibility issues discussed in this one.

Simon

Re:ThinkPad USB-C Dock Gen2 and Dual monitor 2560×1440

Hello again,

just want to add the folowing information.

Found this product website about the 40AS USB-C Gen 2 Dock with the following information on it: https://smartsupport.lenovo.com/de/en/accessories/acc500106

*: Dock has the ability to support DisplayPort™ 1.4 and HDMI™ 2.0 for max 2 x 4K @ 60 Hz displays, but the real video output would depend on the system’s output.

The Dock has the ability to use two(!) 4k displays with 60Hz each.

The question is: Can T14 Gen 1 AMD platform support this ?

I think(!) yes, beacuse of the informations in the T14 platform datasheet. Actually i am not sure about it...
