ThinkVision M14 Monitor Not Recognized

2021-01-03, 16:51 PM

Lovely monitor, works great BUT:

4 different computers (Toshiba laptop, computer with GTX 960, new Dell 2 in 1 and older Dell)

2 different HMDI to DisplayPort adapters

3 different DP to USC-c cables

4 different DP ports tried

And all is does it turn on and  got to sleep.

Not recognized anywhere.

I have searched and searched and tried everything suggested, what am I doing wrong?

And yes, it does work USB-c to USB-c

There's already some discussion on this in the community, for instance here.

You don't say how you are providing power when trying DisplayPort or HDMI?

USB-C: Just cos it fits don't mean it works.

Cable Matters HDMI to DisplayPort Active Adapter.

I have tried both a QGeeM and Cable Creation bi cable, directly off DP port and through adapter.

Powered through the other USB-c.

I know I must be missing something really stupid.

I tried to install the driver from the official Lenovo website according to instruction, but it didn't installed. Also showed message, that it's not a compatible software driver. The monitor switches to power saving mode. I have only BillBoard Device in DM which i think is M14 in fact.

So I guess Lenovo has no interest in fixing this issue?

2021-08-06, 17:07 PM

It has been universally established, on multiple threads discussing this serious issue, that the Windows 10 update caused a compatibility issue with the m14 portable monitor.  Computers with the latest Windows 10 update are not detecting the m14 portable monitor.  I have expanded every field in Device Manager (Win + x  --> Device Manager), and every computer with the latest Windows 10 update fails to detect it (FYI: it should show up under "Monitors" when connected).  It does not even show up when I select the option to view any hidden devices in Device Manager.

It appears the only version of the m14 portable monitor driver was updated on August 9, 2019!  On the thread linked in the second post on this thread, the issue is marked as "solved", with the solution being to buy a usb-c to hdmi cable.  That is not a solution.  What baffles me, even more, is that the m14t (the touch screen, glossy version of this portable monitor) is still working just fine.

I plan on contacting Lenovo support until there is a true solution to this problem, and would recommend others do the same.  I will follow this up with a status update.  Based on my extensive review of this issue, I believe a Lenovo m14 driver update is the only true fix.

Hi Slickcart, In order to help with your question, the community needs more specific information:

Which computer model are you plugging the M14 into? Exact model type (e.g. usually 20xx… for a Thinkpad).

How are you connecting the M14 to the computer? Which computer port exactly, and with what type of cable?

USB-C: Just cos it fits don't mean it works.
