Re: ThinkVision P27h-10 daisy-chaining

My setup works as:

laptop to monitor 1  --> USB C to USB C

monitor 1 to monitor 2 --> DP out to DP in

I prefer this setup as the USB C to USB C connection also charges my laptop in addition to extending the displays. Personal preference but reduces me to 1 cable plug and play.

Re: ThinkVision P27h-10 daisy-chaining

I recently switched from an X1C6 to a P1, and daisychaining still works fine. My setup is:

Laptop <-- USB-C --> Monitor 1 <-- DP --> Monitor 2

There is one slight difference with the P1. With the X1C6, I only had daisychaining enabled in monitor 1. Windows appropriately identified Monitor 1 as #1 and Monitor 2 as #2.

With the P1, and daisychaining enabled only in Monitor 1, Windows insisted on identifying Monitor 1 as #2 and Monitor 2 as #1. Of course you can rearrange the monitors in Windows settings, but that is not quite the same because some things seem to default to monitor 1.

The solution was to enable daisychaining in both monitors. Then Windows appropriately identied Monitor 1 as #1 Monitor 2 as #2.

Note that both the X1C6 and P1 are a bit finicky about recognizing the monitors at startup after the laptop has been disconnected. I usually have to plug in the USB-C cable to the laptop, then toggle the power button on Monitor 1 to get the monitors to be recognized. Once the monitors have been recognized, they remian so until the next time they are disconnected.

Also note that with the P1 or X1E (and probably other models that use > 100W power supply), the monitor cannot supply power to the laptop. A separate power supply is needed.

Does it mean, that the issue is in MAC?

Is it HW or SW limitation? I wonder, whether apple will change something because of lenovo

I've been struggling to determin if the issue is primarly the X1C6 or the P27h-10.  We replaced all our P27h-10's with Dell U2719DC's thinking we'd resolve the MST/DaisyChain and other quirks with monitors not always showing up, limited connectivity popups etc coming from our X1C6's and the issue was actually worse.   Which leads us to believe that while the monitors certainly had their issues (P27h-10's) that the larger majority of the issues stemed from the X1's themselves. Especially since the early december firmware updates.  Super frustrating as we've now wasted thousands and thousands of dollars trying to make a reliable single usb-c monitor + x16c solution work.

Hi all, do we have clear info, whether this is MAC/apple limitation and will never work?

Or I can confirm whether apple will support it with upcoming releases? Is it MST feature for multiple monitors we are looking for here?

Having again talked to Apple, they now confirmed that it should work with Mac.

I have now requested new monitors which will be send to me in the upcoming two weeks. I will let you know if the older firmware on my current monitors was the problem.

Matmid01, thank you very much for your effort. I hope you will be able to resolve the issue.

I would expect that apple and lenovo can make this work.
