I have the same issue.

However I left the Dock disconnected from Power over the weekend and now it is working again (except for Ethernet, that is still broken).

 

Maybe other Docks can be "recovered" by leaving pulling the Power plugs for a few days as well and another update might fix Ethernet?

 

Edit: I have now managed to fully restore my Docks functionality: I have Downloaded the latest Firmware again and run the update manually and did not reeboot afterwards. Then I Downloaded the latest Drivers for the Dock again and installed them again (Repair option during install), did not reboot here either. Then I left it be for about an hour. Meanwhile a Message would pop up every few seconds that the connected USB Device could not be recognized. Then I rebootet the Notebook and now everything was recognized again. Just to be sure I shut down everything and pulled the Power Plugs for a few minutes, but everything seems to be working now.

Hello, mine is 40AN0230EU.

 

I have a second dock which has not been updated with Thunderbord firmware 3.1.52, and this works like a charm.

Lenovo Vantage wants me to update it as well, but I'll wait to recover the first one :o)

Stunning response from Lenovo support to the ticket that i put in, adviding them that the dock failed after installing the latest software from the website.

 

Your Update of: Please refer to pcsupport.lenovo.com to download the latest drivers for this device. If the unit is still faulty after updating all possible drivers, please open a new ticket to assist you further. Regards.

Don't be surprised. This happens with all customer support services, regardless of brand. The first contact that you have you receive answers like: are you sure the PC is plugged in? are you sure you turned it on? etc. It's what they call the support level 1. For the kind of questions I ask, this kind of first reply is always useless. Maybe in the second or third iterations someone with a higher skill set jumps in and we really begin to communicate.

 

It's noteworthy that someone related to Lenovo detected relatively quickly this thread and maybe the information will get to the developers. So let's keep our fingers crossed.

 

However speaking about developers, I'm concerned about the skill set still left in the Lenovo dev team. My feeling is based not only on this issue, but also on the multitude of issues that I got after the last BIOS update, the relatively big number of people that complain about having their P52  bricked afte BIOS update, etc.

Same issue, same model (40AN0230US) and same cause here. I ran the update on three laptops (each has 2 docks assigned to them) before I realized that there was a problem. Fun fact: It doesn't matter if you have the docking station plugged in during the update. I know this because each of three laptops have been plugged into their other docking stations as a temporary fix, but just plugging them into the other dock bricked them after a few minutes. Laptops work fine, but the dock does not. The only thing that it seems to be good for now is providing power.

Wait a second. So after having bricked my dock, now if I plug in another dock => it will be bricked again? I.e. the computer will automatically apply it the firmware update?

 

I'm asking this because I just ordered a second dock (with the intention to return the first dock). So now, I'm wondering if plugging the new one => it will be bricked too.

From my experience, yes. The working dock was bricked just by plugging it in to the updated laptop. It happened each time a user tried it. Also, The laptop that has not had the update applied (and can still connect to its docking station) cannot connect to the bricked ones no matter how I try it (plugged in while on, while signed in, while off, during boot...). I does still owrk with it's non-bricked dock, and I've made sure that it doesn't search for updates... :-/
