Because Vantage didn't find anything for that one.

 

There Is another issue with the firmware on that model though, the file path/name is too long if you save it anywhere too deep (like your user downloads folder or desktop), running it just silently skips the super long named firmware file while updating the rest. Manually running the Intel firmware update tool from the firmwares folder shows an error that there is no file with that name. Renaming it to something short or moving the whole folder to the root of C fixes the issue.

yes this is the dock and yes the PC doesn't recognized the dock. When I plug in I can hear a sound but in the overview of thunderbold software is nothing in and when I use the new firmware tool I became message there isn't any dock found. When I use directly the thunbold fimware tool out of the folder I become message "wrong Vendor"

I just edited the previous post with more details on the issue I had updating mine, but it didn't brick mine, it just kept skipping the main firmware and showing that there was still an update for it untill I did the mentioned workaround (though I also swear that one of the other files it updated downgraded the first time I ran it as well before updating again when I ran it a second time).

 

If it bricked itself you might want to exchange it before you have to deal with Lenovo for a warranty repair, I can't see there being any recovery you could do if the device isn't recognized.

I tend to agree, if the dock is that far gone I don't see an alternative. The good thing is Lenovo exchange is fairly painless and I got my replacements within a week (back order).

Dont know, would depend on where you purchased it and if its still within their exchange period (usually 30 days for most).

 

After re reading some of the issues people are having at the beginning, are we sure the thunderbolt dock is bricked and not that people have broken thunderbolt ports on their PCs now? Possibly after a thunderbolt firmware update on the device itself (the X1 extreme had one available for a while in lenovo vantage).

 

There were people saying they didn't have the thunderbolt device in device manager under system after the update, and that should be there regardless of your dock being plugged in, bricked or not.

 

They are on firmware 3.1.53 now also (which was not offered in vantage), i'm assuming they pulled the old one from vantage auto update and are holding back on pushing this out to everyone until they know there is no issues like the previous version.

Depends on your location but here in the states I believe it's 1-855-253-6686. Firmware update that bricked the docks was only pushed to Vantage (3.1.52) I confirmed this personally and with Lenovo support. I still have multiple docks that work just fine because they do not have the Vantage App, only Update 5.  My people with Vantage had working TB3 docks (tb3 in device mgmr) until the update. After the plauged update, the laptops did not show up in device manager.
