I had the same issue with a USB-C dock and a X1 carbon. Switching back to Lenovo ThinkPad USB-C Dock Conexant USB Audio Driver 220.127.116.11 [4/13/2018] fixed the issue.

Old drivers should be on your computer still. Go to "Device Manager", "Sound, video and game controllers", right-click "Thinkpad USB-C Dock USB Audio" (or whatever is right for your dock), click "Update Driver", "Browse my computer for driver software", "Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer". This should show older versions of the driver, and you can go back to those from there (with a reboot).

The updates I applied yesterday actually contained an audio driver update that made the issue come back! I had to roll the driver back again! Lenovo!
