Re:Thunderbolt 3 Dock Issue with Monitors not turning on after wakeup from sleep

2020-10-01, 21:06 PM

I have a Lenovo Extreme X1 Gen 2, the ThinkPad Thunderbolt 3 Workstation Dock and two LG Ultrawide monitors attached to it.

If I use DisplayPort, after the monitor goes to sleep they will not come back.  If I use HDMI it works fine.

This is an issue with power or signal after awaking from sleep.  The dock is not informing the monitor to turn on again.

This has been an issue since I purchased the dock.  Tested again this week and it's still a problem...

Are you running the latest dock firmware?

I have the latest drivers and firmware installed according to their Lenovo Service Bridge and Lenovo Vantage.

I don't think Lenovo system update picks up the latest dock firmware.  In July 2020 version 3.1.67 was released for the dock.

Hi Fosol,

I recommend you manually reinstall the dock drivers and firmware. Read the instructions, make certain only the computer and power is connected to the Dock when you update the firmware. In some cases, firmware from some controllers won't be updated otherwise. Power-cycle the dock once the update has completed.

The firmware installer has a function that allows you to verify the installed versions are up to date, if you need to check them.

Re:Thunderbolt 3 Dock Issue with Monitors not turning on after wakeup from sleep

2020-11-13, 15:31 PM

We have been having these issues with displays not working at work here as well.  I just got a T490s with a Thunderbolt3 Gen 2 dock.  My setup is 3 monitors (2xHDMI/1xDP) monitors are all DVI, so conversion cables are used.

I have tried most of the things suggested in this thread before (Drive Update / Dock Firmware Update) with some success for a brief time, then would go back to delayed start (10-15 minutes before turning on, or no picture, or distorted colors)

Digging through the BIOS, I found a setting under Config / Display for RAM settings.  Default is 256MB.  I set this to the other option in there 512MB.

After a reboot, my 3 monitors came on almost immediately.  I have put to Locked/Unlocked, put to sleep and powered on, and so far with my limited (about and hour ago) testing, everything has continued to work so far.

Keeping my fingers crossed that this fixed the issue.  I didn't see this anywhere in the thread as a suggestion, so hoping this will help someone else as well.

Thanks

Edit - It's about the end of the day.  I've reboot my computer a couple times, put it to sleep, locked and unlocked a dozen or more times and every time my monitors have come back to display.  Keeping my fingers crossed.

I'm in the same boat. Latest driver and dock firmware installed (3.1.67.0). Lenovo Extreme X1 Gen 2, the ThinkPad Thunderbolt 3 Gen 2 Dock.

Every time I start my machine screens flicker constantly, fans run hot. When running the firmware update tool to 'check', eventually it stops doing this.

When my computer goes to sleep again it does it again. Practically unusable. I logged a support ticket but haven't heard yet. Does anyone know of a fix?

I sent mine back and got a new Dock that is at an older firmware.

Also I use HDMI which I have found to be more reliable than DisplayPort. If you are using DisplayPort you may want to try HDMI before sending it back
