You are completely right about that.

I'm also suffering from pretty noisy coil whine. It sounds like HDD. But thats another subject..

Let's try new firmware.

And yes, noisy coil whine is present constantly here as well...

Re: Thunderbolt 3 dock Gen 2 and Thinkpad P1 lag

I am having some strange issues after the new firmware update...

1. Put computer to sleep at night while connected to dock. Return in the morning to noisy fans and screenbacklight on, but computer is not responsive. Unplug dock and fans spin down, but computer remains unresponsive with backlight on. Hard Power down. Start back up and works fine.

2. Occasional hdmi external display disconnects and reconnects

3. Laggy screen while laptop is closed remains to be an issue. Keeping laptop display on solves issue same as before.

I am having all the same lagging issues everyone else is having. A clean reboot is the only way it disappears.

I have a new X1 Extreme, 2-Lenovo Thinkvision FHD T24v-10 VOIP monitors and 1-Thinkvision X1 Thunderbolt 27" 4K with the TBT 2nd Gen Workstation Dock. I use HDMI for the 2 FHD monitors (+ a 2nd USB cable for each integrated webcam) and the Thunderbolt cable to the Thunderbolt port on the front of the dock for the monitor and the webcam. There is no 2nd USB cable needed when using the Thunderbolt cable.

After the dock firmware upgrade, with leave screen on when lid closed, when the laptop goes to sleep the ONLY way to wake it up is a HARD reset. Nothing else works to wake it up.

My biggest most frustrating problem is I do A LOT of video conferencing, LIVE Stream video training and the lagging is causing the monitors integrated webcams to flicker terribly. This prevents me from recording video trainings since the flicker is so bad. You can see the flickering in the windows camera app and Zoom webinar streams.

If I disconnect the laptop from the dock the laptop's integrated webcam doesn't flicker and works fine with Zoom. But, I didn't buy the external monitors to use the laptop by itself.

Lenovo sent me another dock, which I didn't suspect it's a hardware issue, and there is no difference even with the latest firmware release for the dock.

Does anyone else have their monitors integrated webcam flicker in the windows camera app? I use the camera app simple to test if the flickering is still there before going LIVE on video.

Also, leaving the laptop lid open doesn't work for me. Every 10 seconds the laptop dims the screen and immediately logs me out of windows. I've reviewed every possible setting to see why and can't for the life of me figure that one out or find it online.

Frustrated in Paradise :)

Hello, Lenovo.

Do I have to start calling into your tech support lines and barating your poor employees?

I dont want to make anyones day worse, but I am desperately searching for the quality product that I know I purchased. Lenovo has a great reputation in my world, so I know there is a fix coming...

Can someone from Lenovo please chime in here and assure us that everything is going to be OK?

Thanks and happy holidays!

Here is yesterday's update for the X1 Extreme 2nd Gen

https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/au/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-x-series-laptops/thinkpad-x1-extreme-gen-2/20qv/20qvcto1ww/r90wxxbz/downloads/DS540301

We'll see if this fixes the screen lag and having to Hard Reboot after a night resting and not waking, screen frozen.

This update DID NOT fix the monitors webcam's flickering in the windows camera app and the Zoom app.

JUST CURIOUS, Is anyone else experiencing flickering in your camera app? I do A LOT of video conferencing and video training with Zoom. If you do not, just guessing, you may not have noticed it. My belief or theory is the flickering is caused by the same issue which causes the lag through the Thunderbolt 3 2nd Gen Workstation Dock.

I test the flickering using the windows camera app.

On my X1E (20MF) I turned graphics back onto Hybrid, and ran the latest updates (Intel Thunderbolt Software (17.4.80.550), Thinkpad Bios Update (1.25) and NVIDIA and Intel Drivers (26.21.14.3194) through Lenovo Vantage. Problem appears to be resolved. Crossing fingers this is permanent!

@wk08 Awesome!

Does your "monitor", that's connected to the Thunderbolt 3 2nd Gen Workstation Dock, have an integrated webcam?

If it does, when you open the Microsoft camera app does the image in the app flicker? Mine does and I think the screen lag is also related to my screen flicker in the camera app.
