Type:40AN thunderbolt 3 dock gen 2, firmware update, cannot find dock

Dear community

tried to update this thunderbolt 3 dock station's firmware, I ran it successfully once, but one of the component cannot be updated. Cannot remember what exact but something "NVE"??

 

then I restarted my laptop (thinkpad by the way). can when I try to run the firmware update utility again, it always show the message "Cannot find the dock, please check your connection". but all the monitors worked fine.

 

How can I fix this problem and get the firmware updated?

Hi junwen,

 

Welcome to the Community Forums.

 

Try to reset the dock:

 

- Unplug the dock from power, computer and external devices.
- Hold the power button on the dock down for 45 seconds. 
- Plug everything back in.

- Then connect it back and run the update.

Hi Voithos Thank you for the reply. I followed your instruction and reset the dock, still showing the same error message. Any other thing I can try? Thanks

Today

 

I tried to upgrade another dock (same type) to the latest firmware, the upgrade went smooth, but the same thing happened to this second one. after upgrade, cannot connect to the dock (from firmware update utility, not upgrade again, just do the check), the monitors are all working fine.

Make sure that the dock is connected to a Thunderbolt 3 compatible USB-C port  and device is approved.  You can verify this using the Thunderbolt app.

Thank you for the info The only thunderbolt 3/USB4 port machine is the new M1 macbookpro, and I cannot run the tool on it as it is windows only I used to upgraded using the USB USB-C port, and it worked. I downloaded the new tools released on 12 May 2021 from Lenovo website today and now it connects to the dock without any issue :) But the question remains is when I click the "check" button, it doesn't list the FW version for tbt, I must have the thunderbolt 3 port to list these info??
