W770 headset mic

2013-11-17, 2:34 AM

Installed W770 headset today and audio is OK.  Nevelrtheless, the mic sounds muted (but is just extremely low volume).  I am not having problems with other audio mic devices includind builtin (Thinkpad W700 on Win 7 Pro) and bluetooth speaker phone. I've looked at ever audio property, config option, etc.   I wish I had read the reviews on Amazon b/c I certainly am not the only person having this identical problem.  I've checked Windows Update, too, along w/ reboots, disable / enable of device.  No change.

I am having the very same problem, and I'm not amused in the slightest that this product's own support community has not managed a response in over a month's time. Compounding this issue, is that the support hotline is insanely congested and no one seems to have a single solitary clue as to what department is responsible for these faulty headsets.

For two days, both the audio output -and- input were quite flawless, though the range was slightly lower than 10m within a home and a super-short charging cable. Not big issues in the slightest as it was at least doing what it was made to do.

Fast forward to Saturday morning and I'm stuck with a headset that has a microphone so incredibly quiet now that the only way for me to communicate with it is to literally place the small microphone outlet on my lips.

The headset has not received any trauma due to bumping, dropping, burning or from moisture, and is at full charge.

just a followup to my own posting: I'm on Win 7 Pro x64 on a ThinkPad W700 (4 GB) using FF 26.0 -- all current maintenance.

Different OS, Windows Vista on a personally built PC, though I may have found something of a 'solution', though I'm unsure of whether or not this was truly indicative of the problem.

Check the physical outlet for the microphone on the headset and make sure there's no obvious debris along the opening (obvious, but a precursor to the next step). Second, you may wish to use something like a (very clean and) very fine q tip swab and manually (and VERY CAREFULLY) swab for micro-debris. After this, do your standard run of testing on your mic volume.

On a whim I did this just to appease my own curiosity, and it's strangely seemed to have helped some, albeit there was no actual, visible debris in the opening, nor on the q tip in question post cleaning. It could simply be that I physically disturbed some covering or other mechanism with my prodding.

Nevermind, still far more quiet than it was originally.

I attempted to contact Lenovo support regarding this issue, and after over a dozen different employees was finally routed to the (hither to unmentioned) after market department, was then told over and over again that Lenovo could not troubleshoot their products and only could provide a replacement, which I reluctantly accepted. The problem now is that they have not acknowledged any of my communications after the fact and I still have yet to receive the replacement. Honestly, this product is getting a negative review and I'm warning my coworkers never to trust Lenovo accessories, or their horrid customer service.

Bumping up this thread, cause I have similar problems and I see no answer from Lenovo.
