Dock Manager Repository

2021-02-12, 16:23 PM

Anyone else having an issue using a custom repository with Dock Manager? I am guessing it is an issue with how Update Retriever is handling the download? I have tried using Update Retriever and just downloading from the website. It does not detect that there is a new version if I use my network repository or local repository.

What value are you setting for RepositoryLocation in the registry?

Does the repository you created using Update Retriever have only dock firmware updates in it?

Which Dock Machine Type are you using?

For the repository location, I have used C:\temp\ur and also a network location like \\10.1.1.5\lenovodrivers\dock\ It only has dock firmware download from update retriever in the repository. The dock is the 40AN

I'm also having issues with using a network repository. I'm unsure if I need to extract the firmware or just drop the firmware exe file for the dock into the repository. Any assistance would be very much appreciated. I'm not using update retriever in any capacity at the moment.

Has this gone anywhere?  How do you add Dock firmware/drivers to an update retriever respository?

Re:Dock Manager Repository

Well I've had nothing but issues from this utility.

I installed the software on a test computer and setup a network repository

I then setup the group policy settings using the admx and adml templates provided.

The group policy templates are useless because they push settings to a completely different registry key than the default program. My repository settings I use with group policy are ignored.

Ok I can get past this I just need to push out a registry key value with group policy no problem

But once the dock manager sees the firmware I download via update retriever it never prompts to install. If I force it by running the scheduled tasks manually it still does nothing.

I really need this to work as I have 160 users who are having dock issues and the fw update really makes things more stable.

I was able to get it working.

I used the Update Retriever and used model 40AN for our dock instead of laptop model. Then I copied all the files from there to our network location for repository. I then used Group policy Preferences to set the desired registry entries for the repository location and notification styles. I also created a GPP to update the scheduled task that Dock Manager creates to the schedule we want. If anyone is interested in more details I can provide them.

Did you use the Lenovo admx template or just make your own registry entries for GP?

I'm assuming you are pointing to : Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Lenovo\Dock Manager\User Settings\General & Scheduler?

I can get the computer to download the firmware from the repository on a schedule but it just doesn't prompt me to do the install.  If I force it to prompt me by running the scheduled task it still never installs.

I'm also using this for the 40AN dock and using Update retriever to grab the firmware.

I did not use the admx templates. I used GPP to setup the registry entries in the location you mentioned.

I am able to get it to work using this method, however now I see there is a fail status in the dock manager itself, but it appears that it updated the firmware..... I hope Lenovo gets an update to these issues. I am not sure why they even put the admx out there as you mentioned it does not even update the correct registry entries.

Re:Dock Manager Repository

Sorry for the issues.  We'll report the issues with ADMX template back to the product team.

I believe the scheduled task for Dock Manager is simply for it to update its local cache of firmware updates.  The updating of an attached dock would happen when it is attached and Dock Manager determines it has a newer update.  It may also be triggered after a reboot; we'll verify.

Also there seemed to be some confusion about the role of Update Retriever.  If you want to host your own repository of the dock firmware updates, you need to use Update Retriever to create and maintain that repository.  You have to specify the Machine Type of the docks you want to cover such as 40AN.
