Intel Ethernet Connection Jacksonville LAN Driver - 10 [64] - 12.18.8 driver keeps reinstalling

2021-04-26, 16:50 PM

We are having an issue similar to others where a 3rd party driver update deployed via ECM keeps reinstalling.

In this case it is the driver:

Bulletin ID:
Article ID: r0src06w

Date revised: Thursday, May 21, 2020

Maximum severity rating: Important

Description:
Intel Ethernet Connection Jacksonville LAN Driver - 10 [64] - 12.18.8.9 (INTEL_LAN_R0SRC)

Applicable languages:
English

Affected products:
Lenovo Updates

The driver installs and we are able to see the new driver version in device manager, however, the detection rule appears to be messed up.

On clients, it will install again, request a reboot. Once rebooted, the cycle repeats.

On a side note, we are also seeing this behavior with the driver:

Bulletin ID:
Article ID: u2chp36us14

Date revised: Tuesday, December 31, 2019

Maximum severity rating: Important

Description:
Intel Chipset Driver - 10 [64] - 10.1.18243.8188 (CHIP_U2CHP3)

Applicable languages:
English

Affected products:
Lenovo Updates

I have been forced to pull both of these drivers from deployment.

I have seen where Lenovo support specifically asked for these reports to be posted here, but should we also open a support ticket via our account reps?

I am investigating these updates.

I am seeing the same error with Intel Chipset Driver 10.1.18243.8188 u2chp36us14

It tries to install, thinks it's successful, asks for a reboot.  After reboot, the update is not found in the Configuration Manager client logs (but I see the SMB device installed in device manager).  It then fails, and after a bit will try to install, think it's successful, ask for a reboot... you get the idea of the loop I'm stuck in here.

Please reach out if you need any logs and post back when a fix is out or if there is a procedure to fix.

@TheJohnD @CheezWiz

I looked at the chipset driver and you are correct, the isInstalled logic is not correct.  We are working to alert the content team to evaluate the best way to address this.

@CheezWiz

I just got my X380 Yoga yesterday.  Hoping to get working on this today.  I apologize for the delay.

Thank you for this feedback.  I'm just glad to know it's not an issue on my end.  I'm going to sort out how to pull this patch for now until it's fixed.

John, just edit the software update groups membership for the particular update. I have created a sub-folder for "Deferred" updates. Anything I do not want applied, I move there. Then, after ADR's run each month, I can just select all in that folder and edit membership to remove them from and SUG's. Then, once the issue is resolved, I move them back to the root of software updates. It is a bit manual but it works. I only have to check it once per month or if I manually trigger an ADR. Could probably all be scripted with PowerShell.

Good, that's the same path I was going down so great to see my logic was the same as yours.  Thank you!
