Introducing ThinkVantage Update Retriever v5.00

Update Retriever v5.00 is now available here:

http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/detail.page?LegacyDocID=tvan-admin#ur

Documentation on the new features and usage of Update Retriever v5.00 available here:

http://download.lenovo.com/luc/dml/DML_UR5.pdf

v5.00 provides the following enhancements:

- Windows 8 support

- Improved UI with resizable window

- Improved ease of use

-  -  No longer requires Language to be specified when defining managed systems

-  -  Provides a description field when defining managed systems so user can more easily recognize each system

-  -  Provides an Import/Export capability for the list of managed systems

- Enhanced Reporting capabilities

NOTE:  Due to the enhancements in UR v5.00, the database schema for the repository has changed.  Therefore, when managing a repository using v5.00 you must use ThinInstaller v1.2 and/or System Update v5.01 to obtain content from that repository.  When upgrading from UR v4.3 to v5.00, the database will be upgraded as well.  For those who continue to manage their repository with v4.3, the new ThinInstaller and System Update will recognize the older repository and continue to support it with backwards compatibility.

Re: Introducing ThinkVantage Update Retriever v5.00

Hi,

Sorry for the late call, how is the migration path from TVUR 4.02 ?

I tried looking up version 4.3 so i can upgrade to that and following that upgrade version 5.

Much Appreciated, thanks in advance.

Re: Introducing ThinkVantage Update Retriever v5.00

I don't believe there was any changes to the database schema between 4.2 and 4.3 so you should be able to upgrade 4.2 to 5 in the same way as going from 4.3 to 5.0.  I would suggest making a backup of your databse.xml file in your repository folder just in case you need to go back to 4.2.

Also make sure you use the very latest Thin Installer and/or System Update once you upgrade Update Retriever.

Re: Introducing ThinkVantage Update Retriever v5.00

Yes, thanks.  Is ther any update on the status of the Version control for System Update?  The files in the SSClientCommon.zip are from 2011 yet.  This would be extremely helpful to us if it ever gets updated again.

Re: Introducing ThinkVantage Update Retriever v5.00

Hi, the ThinkPad Edge E540 has a machine type of 20C6.  Update Retriever has 46 packages for Win7 and 55 for Win8 in their respective catalogs.

In Update Retriever, make sure you enter the Machine Type letters as upper-case.  If you enter lower case it won't find it.  We still want to get that fixed at some point so the case won't matter.

Re: Introducing ThinkVantage Update Retriever v5.00

This question should probably have been posted as a separate thread.

The email notification feature is generally used by the person managing Update Retriever so that they can receive an email with search results from Update Retriever.  A scheduled task will be set up to perform a search and the list of results will be put into an email.

The email address field should be your email address where you want to receive the email.

The SMTP server field should have the SMTP outgoing mail server that you have access to use.

The Log on using fields represent the account name and password required to send email through your SMTP server.

An example of using gMail for the SMTP server:

  • Gmail SMTP server address: smtp.gmail.com
  • Gmail SMTP user name: Your full Gmail address (e.g. example@gmail.com)
  • Gmail SMTP password: Your Gmail password
