Is there a "SCCM Package For Windows 7 (64-bit)" for an X220?

2013-05-08, 16:38 PM

Hey all,

i found the "SCCM package for Windows 7 (32-bit) and (64-bit)" for ThinkPad X230s here...

 http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS034785

...but is there one for the X220s as well? I only see ones for M82, M92p M92, and X230

any help would much appreciated.

No, there are no driver packs for the X220 systems.  The SCCM Driver Packs were introduced with the ThinkPad X230, T430, T530, W530 family of systems.  We did not have driver packs prior to that .

Why don´t you use Thinkvantage Thininstaller? :)

i eventualy ended up using the thinkvantage update retriever. it worked fine, just took longer.

it would just be a whole lot easier if lenovo packaged the drivers like they did for the newer models. is it really that hard for them?

The problem is that it's a couple of hundred different x220 models, so you're better of using ThinInstaller.

I'm very new to SCCM and also to Lenovo, would anyone know where there might be a helpful step-by-step to explain how best to use ThinInstaller to pull in the required drivers for older models like the 220 and 210 into SCCM.

I have found this - http://richardyoung.wordpress.com/2011/01/22/getting-lenovo-drivers-into-sccm-the-easy-way/ - which I didn't try yet.  I don't even have SCCM built yet, or any training done on it, I'm just doing some research to prepare.

thanks

If you are not using SCCM already and you really are just looking for OS deployment capabilities, you might want to check out just using MDT or using MDT with Windows Deployment Services from Windows Server.  SCCM can get really complicated.

Also check out this document which covers using Update Retriever and ThinInstaller (as well as the SCCM driver packs for newer systems) with MDT.  The process is basically the same in SCCM especially if you integrate MDT with SCCM which gives you additional capabilities.

That sounds great - actually based on our early research that is exactly the route we've decided to go.

I don't see a document linked in your post, would you mind re-linking?

Specifically, we'll want to include drivers for lots of x210, x220 and x230 varieties - and there are a lot of them that I don't have available for testing - they are many miles away.

Appreciate the help!

EDIT - I found the document linked in another thread and we've used it to pull in all the drivers we require for the 4 models in our environment.  thanks!

Sorry for missing the link to the document in the previous post.  Glad to hear you found it anyway and got it working.
