P52 - Activated Secure Boot Status not forwarded to OS after Intel ME Firmware Update

2020-07-24, 9:05 AM

Hello,

recently we updated the Intel ME Firmware on Three Thinkpad P52, all of them show the some problem after the Update:

Altough Secure Boot is enabled in BIOS, Windows 10 doesnt recognize this anymore and reports Secure Boot as disabled. As

a result our Disk Encryption Software cant be used anymore. New P52 Devices can only installed in Legacy mode, but cant be

encrpyted if we install them in UEFI Mode.

First the PRoblem occoured after we installed a Update from Update Retriever

Intel Management Engine 12.0 Firmware 12.0.64.1551 (Lenovo N2CEG24W)

....we then found a later version on the download page and installed it as well:

Intel Management Engine 12.0 Firmware 12.0.65.1567 (Lenovo N2CEG25W)

But the Problem still persists. Deactivating and Re-Activating Secure Boot in BIOS didnt help.

Is this problem known and is there a solution ? We have to use UEFI Mode , we cant work with Legacy Mode w/o Secure Boot.

Thank you

Heiko

Hi there Ray311073,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Have you tried right clicking the Intel Management Engine 12.0 Firmware 12.0.64.1551 (Lenovo N2CEG24W) driver on the Support site, then selecting "Copy Link Address"

Then when pasting that link into the URL section of the browser, changing it to N2CEG23W ?  Then seeing if you can install the older version again (if the driver is still available), maybe you have to try 22 etc.

Could be that reverting to a older driver can help solve the problem that the updates has caused.

Just a thought.

Regards

Re:P52 - Activated Secure Boot Status not forwarded to OS after Intel ME Firmware Update

Hello,

I eventually was able to test to downgrade IntelME Firmware. I downloaded three older Versions (xx21w to xx23w) but

the Firmware is not installed, instead I can find a error.txt file:

Error 499:  Update to Image with lower ARB SVN is not allowed.

Is there any way to get around this error, somethings else I could try ?

Thank you

Heiko

Looking over a few threads, there seems to be no way of downgrading the Intel ME Firmware. I have done system board driver downgrades before, but apparently this specific one is not allowed.

Have you checked that you have the latest BIOS version for your device as well ? If not, I'd check that and perform an update. Apart from that I am out of suggestions, but If I come across something related, I will post back. There are plenty of other knowledgeable people on the forums, so hopefully they can chip in.
