Re: Thunderbolt Firmware Detection Tool (1810r) - Download/Versions/output ?!

2019-10-02, 9:47 AM

Thunderbold queries itself are already working (without password of course). But I could imagine to check Thunderbolt Bios Assist mode, or if TB is enabled at all and then change these settings. For future usage we could use WMI to e.g. enable or disable Camera or other devices. We just getting started with edit Bios Settings with WMI and this Thunderbolt FW Rollout may be the first one we really need to use it

The "Lenovo BIOS Setup using WMI Deployment Guide"  says "If a supervisor password is already set, you must specify that supervisor password before you can change any BIOS settings."

And if I check the examples in the PDF , I have to specify the password two times, once for setting the new value and then again for saving the new value.

Yes, you would need BIOS password to set and save BIOS settings.  You don't need it to query BIOS settings.

Re: Thunderbolt Firmware Detection Tool (1810r) - Download/Versions/output ?!

I am working on the Firmware Update for Thunderbolt with Thin Installert.

We use this commandline:

C:\Program Files\ThinInstaller\ThinInstaller.exe /CM -search A -action INSTALL -repository "C:\Windows\ccmcache\9b\Files" -IncludeRebootPackages 1,3,4,5 -ShowProgress -NoCancel -nocontinueafterreboot

But the Thin Installer finds no Firmware Update.

I take a look in my WMI:

I get this results when i execute detect1904.exe:

I checked the logfiles (attached) and detect1904.exe got an error -1 for the n22th06w.

The expected result is 0.

Could somebody from Lenovo check this, please?

Thanks!

This is strange so I tried it here, but I couldn't reproduce what you're seeing.  One thing I noticed is that you manually executed detect1904.exe from c:\install\n22th06w folder, but this is not your repository.  Could you please try manually executing it from your actual repository?  I'm wondering if something in your repository is corrupt or missing.  For example, I made detect1904.exe return -1 when I deleted tbtapi1904.dll from the repository folder.

I tried again with the right repository and still the same (logs attached).

The files in the n22th06w folder:

Thank you for the help!

Does detect1904.exe work if you manually execute it from that same folder (C:\windows\ccmcache\...) on a command prompt?

I'm stumped why it doesn't work during your task sequence.  I remember another customer had a similar problem trying to do BIOS updates and was getting a strange return code that indicated some file was missing, which seems to be same problem you're having with the Thunderbolt package.  They told me they solved it by "I changed the TS to use packages instead of the ‘Download Package Content’ ".  I'm not SCCM expert so I'm not sure what this means, but hopefully this can help you.

We use "Download Package Content" in the Tasksequence.

A package is not possible, cause everytime the user starts the tasksequence it will download the content again.

Can you check this with the engeneering team?

Please use Process Monitor to capture a trace of the failure.  I can help look at the trace if you zip and upload the PML file here.
