Will Lenovo's Driver Catalog Support v3 Catalog Format for Categories and Content Staging

2019-10-04, 18:59 PM

Hey Lenovo Team,

Nice work on the v2 catalog that you can add directly in the SCCM console using: https://download.lenovo.com/luc/v2/LenovoUpdatesCatalog2v2.cab

There's a lot of talk about Lenovo, HP, and Dell drivers over on the SCCM Slack/Discord group. A lot of Lenovo customers are interested if Lenovo is going to support the v3 driver catalog format that's been around since 1906 TP and hopefully will release on ConfigMgr 1910.

Here are some details about the benefits of the v3 format: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6xz3ce5ezLk. The v3 format would allow for filtering and full automation from the SCCM in-console publishing.

Do you guys plan on updating the Lenovo driver catalog to support this format? If you have any questions, please reach out to myself, and I can loop in you with the Configuration Manager product group if any details are needed on the catalog authoring side to support the new format.

The v3 catalog format allows for the following improvements in category selection and full-content publishing:

This is a much needed feature and will save us admins from future headaches, and having to use third party apps!

Hi surfer81,

The v3 catalog is still being worked on. The team needs to split time between updating the current catalog and developing the new one so that is why there has been a delay. I would say that the v3 catalog would be released in the next 8 weeks to allow us to properly test it. We want to be sure that the switch from v2 to v3 would not negatively impact the users who already published from the v2 catalog.

Thanks!

The v3 catalog will have no impact on customers using the v2 catalog. v3 simply includes a new folder in the cab the contains JSON files for the v3 categories. We've been using v3 in our catalog for 6+ months with no impact to users running previous ConfigMgr/SCUP builds.

Hi Justin,

Thanks for the info. We have tested our version of the v3 catalog so we know that the additional files needed will not impact the users. We are developing a new way to automate the maintenance of the catalog so we can push new updates out faster and keep the catagories labeled properly. When we merge the current catalog into the new system, we want time to test it out to be sure that no issues arise.

Hello there, I was wondering if there was an update to the V3 Catalog for SCCM/MECM. We have updated to 1910 and would like to introduce the Lenovo Driver Catalog, but would rather start with the V3 features which can allow the Category support

Is there a timescale for this at all please? Thanks
