I've checked the driver version - this one is the same that we have installed in March / April and we still have bluescreen problems. Not so much as before, but still there.

In the readme txt file you can see this under "4. Version History": 1.0.7.04131 (Date: 2021/04/13)

-> this driver was released in April

Under "5. Fixed items" you can see this:

**********************************Release Note Of V1.0.7.04131 *************************************************************
	Realtek 8152/8153 USB WIN10 Confidential 2021/3/30
	***************************************************
	Version: Win10 10.45.0308.2021

So this is unfortunately not the new driver we are waiting for.

Re:rtump64x64.sys bluescreen on X1 Yoga Gen 4 attached to ThinkPad Thunderbolt 3 Dock - Type 40AC

I can now report that the Lenovo T15 laptop I've been testing with has now been rock stable for over 2 days now. And I left the test laptop running a 2 person Teams video meeting overnight and not a single disconnect! Normally, on a drive/BIOS update it will behave itself for 8 hours or so - who knows why. I was tracking this in the Event Viewer log: Applications & Services -> Microsoft -> Windows -> NetworkProvider -> Operational log which would show me the mini-disconnects.

So what changed? NOT the Lenovo USB Ethernet driver - and that was a shock. The engineer didn't bother to explain the fix, but since this error was happening across many different types of laptops and dongles with RealTek chips, I don't think it was due to Lenovo specific software changes. So that just leaves the Intel Mgmt Engine Firmware. Did anyone ever confirm if this was only happening on laptops with Intel-based CPU's? I'd never considered it before.

In any case, this was the list of updates that Lenovo System Updater brought down that fixed the issue:

Critical Updates

                Intel Management Engine Firmware v14.1.53.1649

Recommended Updates

ThinkPad Hotkey Features Integration Package Setup v10.2.13.0

                Lenovo Power Manager v10.0.137.0

                ThinkPad BIOS Update 1.20

I can confirm that this issue is plaguing my AMD E15, E595, and E495 systems that use Ryzen 7 and Ryzen 5.  They really need to fix this issue ASAP. It's been over 6 months and no solution. Disappointing.

This is part of the latest email sent to me by the Lenovo Engineer:

"

You are correct that this was not an issue that could be solved by Lenovo only updates. Our teams worked closely with Realtek on this issue providing information and data to their engineers and testing versions as they came available. Once Realtek provided a solution it was provided to Lenovo where we packaged it for our specific devices and released. The same general driver has been posted to Realtek’s website and was released on 6/16 (https://realtek-download.com/realtek-usb-fe-gbe-2-5g-rtl8156-rtl8153-rtl8152b-gaming-ethernet-family-controller/).

While the driver is listed as the same version (I believe the engineer here is referring to the "Lenovo USB Ethernet" driver) there have been additional changes made between what was released and the version that you were testing which produced the disconnects. The full list of changes and updates are listed within the driver readme . Specifically, some of these changes were made as a result of the logs and information that you provided to us. We passed that data along to Realtek as we collaborated on the fix and the team spent a large amount of time making adjustments and testing to ensure that the issues you saw were corrected. If you have any other questions about the updates please let me know.

"

So it looks like the driver was reissued with the same version number by Lenovo to stay in sync with the Realtek driver number. Kind of defeats the purpose of having a version number, and release date, when they are not updated, eh? For those that don't want to follow the second link to the readme file I've posted the relevant portion for Win10 users below. Looks like quite a few fixes across many different variations of the 8153 and 8156 chips. So hopefully there is some goodness for everybody on this one.

I am calling BS on this. That link is to a third party Realtek site not the official one. Official link is Realtek USB FE / GBE / 2.5G / Gaming Ethernet Family Controller Software - REALTEK even on that third party site they uploaded it in April you can tell by download link. The Lenovo engineer is just making stuff up. This is the same driver from March. It fixed "most" of the BSOD but didn't do anything else. There is no new driver on 2021-06-16. Please go back to that engineer and push back.
