Re:rtump64x64.sys bluescreen on X1 Yoga Gen 4 attached to ThinkPad Thunderbolt 3 Dock - Type 40AC

2021-01-15, 12:02 PM

Another BSOD today, this time it's ntoskrnl.exe, pacer.sys and rtump64x64.sys - See attached screenshot.
We have about nine TB3 docks in use across the company, four of those are Gen2. Mine is one of five Gen1 TB3 docks.

So far, I've not had any reports of related BSOD's from any of my colleagues but I can't say how many of them are actually used with Windows devices.

I can't disconnect the dock right now as I'm working remotely on the machine, but I could potentially disable the ethernet adapter and rely on a wireless connection.
Might help, we'll see.

FWIW: I am getting a similar issue on a X1 Carbon Gen 6. 19/12 this Realtek update got installed

BSOD with a WDF_VIOLATION since 21/12 randomly.

I also have a TB Workstation Gen 2 dock.

I will try rollback of the driver and get back to this thread.

My X1 Carbon has not crashed since I deactivated the Realtek ethernet adapter of the TB3 dock and switched to WiFi. Network performance hasn't been great 😅, but at least it's reliable again.
Can't wait for a permanent fix!

I've sent this to our dock dev team and they so far have not been able to recreate the issue.  If possible could anyone experiencing this issue provide the following details from the system and the dock being used?

Model name (eg X1 Carbon 8th)   :
Machine type (eg 20U9)          :
BIOS version (eg v1.15)         :
ME fw version (eg 14.0.45.1389) :
Thunderbolt NVM fw ver (eg 45)  :
Dock FW versions                :
Realtek USB Ethernet driver ver :

For dock fw versions, provide version of fw update package last used and/or invididual component versions.
For example:  (USB-C Gen 2 dock)
    FW package: V1.0.6.06161
        Audio codec FW ver:49-0E-14
        PD billboard version: R0.1.0.30
        PD CCG4 version: 0.0.34
        DP HUB FW Ver:5.05.000
        HUB 1 (Q7) FW Ver: 0D24
        HUB 2 (Q8) FW Ver: 0D23

Is there a tool to collect this information? The first 3-4 I know how to get but I am not sure where to pull the dock info from?

hi all

a rollback to 10.39.518.2020 for the Realtek USB Ethernet driver appears to solve the problem for me. 2 days no issues touch wood!

Any chance you have a download link you can share, or did you rollback through Device Manager?

You can get them from the Microsoft Catalog. Not sure the exact version that is in the Lenovo packs.

It may be easiest just to make sure the latest dock firmware is applied.  You could also try using Dock Manager:  https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/ht037099#dm

Any of those details we can get would help in trying to recreate.  I'll also feedback to the dev team that the older driver from May 2020 doesn't seem to have the issue.

Hi,

We have been getting multiple BSODs starting from two weeks ago. One thing we have noticed is that every machine with windows version 2004 or greater gets the blue screen of death, however, the rest of our machines that are version 1909 or less do not experience it. All our machines are connected to the Lenovo USB_C mini-doc type 40AU.
