Re:rtump64x64.sys bluescreen on X1 Yoga Gen 4 attached to ThinkPad Thunderbolt 3 Dock - Type 40AC

2021-02-03, 23:05 PM

Hi,

Our company has been having these issues as well, some more information on the issue we are having.

Two Thinkbook 15-IML's connected to Thinkpad USB-C Gen 2 Docks getting BSOD.

One Thinkpad T495S connected to Thinkpad USB-C Gen 2 Dock getting BSOD.

One Toshiba Protege X30T-E connected to Thinkpad USB-C Gen 2 Dock getting BSOD. (Adding this as it is an oddity)

Like others use of Teams seems to cause the crashes to be more frequent, however it is not a requirement to get them to BSOD.

Thanks

If anyone is able to grab a full kernel dump from one of these BSODs and provide a link to it for us, that would be very helpful.  We have some mini dumps which did not include enough detail for Realtek to work with.

I have downloaded the full dump + mini dump from one of our systems, a Thinkpad X1 Tablet Gen 3 with Thunderbolt 2 Dock Gen 2.

I will send you the download link via pm.

Same issue at our company, bluescreen with WDF_VIOLATION error.

So far 5 Lenovos PCs have encountered this issue

3x 5th Generation Lenovo X1 Carbon, while on Thunderbolt 3 Dock - Type 40A9
1x 6th Generation Lenovo X1 Carbon, while on Thunderbolt 3 Dock - Type 40AS
1x 7th Generation Lenovo X1 Carbon, while on Thunderbolt 3 Dock - Type 40AS

For all instances ethernet was connected to dock. All laptops are on 2004 or 20H2. All laptops had Realtek USB to Ethernet driver version 10.43.x.x installed. No user has reported an issue with Teams, although we rarely use it.

Hi,

have same issue with rtump64x64.sys BSoD on 20S00044RT machine with ThinkPad Thunderbolt 3 Dock Gen 2 attached, actually have 7 similar batches of  laptop+dock on site and currently only one of them is affected by issue.

Already tried to update drivers and firmware for both dock and laptop and replace dock between two laptops - affected machine still BSoDing, uploaded 1.5GB memory.dmp - https://dropmefiles.com/ZqITM

below you could fine bugcheck analysis from WinDbg:

WDF_VIOLATION (10d)
The Kernel-Mode Driver Framework was notified that Windows detected an error
in a framework-based driver. In general, the dump file will yield additional
information about the driver that caused this bug check.
Arguments:
Arg1: 0000000000000006, A fatal error was made in handling a WDF request. In this case,

Arg2: 0000000000000003, The driver attempted to send a framework request that has
already been sent to an I/O target.
Arg3: 000042f0b7cfa558, The WDF request handle value.

Re:rtump64x64.sys bluescreen on X1 Yoga Gen 4 attached to ThinkPad Thunderbolt 3 Dock - Type 40AC

2021-02-09, 6:31 AM

Hello,

We ordered 60 Lenovo X13's and it has been a nightmare with the BSOD's. I sent a survey out to all of our teachers and out of 60 laptops, we have had 40+ with blue screens a few times every week week. Sometimes multiple times a day.

We also ordered 50 mini docking stations (40AU) and had many machines go BSOD when connected to the docks. I started to document the crash dumps. It seems every crash dump comes back with rtump64x64.sys+b5df0

We have a few L13's as well. Same thing. Attached you will find the crash dump.

Another interesting thing is that when the docking station is not connected and you go into the device manager to look at the drivers you will see only the "Internet(R) Ethernet Connection (10)I219-V

Once you connect the Mini Dock, you will see a new driver come up which is the Realtek 10.44.1214.2020 which is the family controller. This is the only time you are able to update this driver. As far as I know 10.44.1214.2020 is the current driver but has not fixed anything.

Seems the Family controller is causing this issue because when you connect any device to usb 3.0 or USB-C the family controller comes up in the device manager. When you go into the actual driver and click the tab "Events" you will see the "Event - "Device started (rtump64x64)

Leads me to believe that this is the problem driver.

We have dealt with this issue since September 2020. It has been painful to say the least. This happens multiple times a day while teachers are teaching virtually (class disruption)  so you can imagine how upset our teachers are with the "IT Department".

As I can see from this forum, this problem is prevalent with most Lenovo laptops right now. I just hope this is fixed quickly. I hope this attached crash dump can help fix this huge issue.

I would love to provide crash dumps but this forum says "I am a new user so I've exceeded my posts". I have only posted once. Page 6 is my write up. 60 machines purchased. 40+ BSOD's. Username jtcrusader

Re:rtump64x64.sys bluescreen on X1 Yoga Gen 4 attached to ThinkPad Thunderbolt 3 Dock - Type 40AC

2021-02-09, 15:33 PM

I just joined the forum to say that we are seeing the same or similar BSOD is happening here since December/January.

For me:

OS: Windows 10 Pro 1909  18363.1316

System Model: 20L5000YUS

SKU: LENOVO_MT_20L5_BU_Think_FM_ThinkPad T480

BIOS Version: LENOVO N24ET60W (1.35 ), 8/10/2020

DOCK Type: 40AN

DOCK Firmware Version: 3.1.67

Others:  We are also hearing about this on systems with Windows 2004 and 20H2.

Copying a file off of my machine remotely will cause the BSOD.  File size > 10G

Sending a file from my machine to the remote location does not appear to cause it.

Trying to trace the version numbers on this driver is a little crazy.

10.46.1231.2020
10.44.1214.2020
10.43.1029.2020
10.45.0928.2020
10.43.0723.2020

Realtek seems to use the second part of version independently of the date part. That list is sorted by date rather than version. Not sure if there are others in that mix since often one off drivers are released to OEM like Lenovo only and others show up in Microsoft Catalog.

I am also experiencing this issue.

Windows 10 20H2

Latest firmware, drivers and windows updates across the board.

Have confirmed from dumps that problems with the rtump64x64.sys. Attempting rollback of realtek drivers for the Lenovo USB-C Dock v2.

Re:rtump64x64.sys bluescreen on X1 Yoga Gen 4 attached to ThinkPad Thunderbolt 3 Dock - Type 40AC

Hi Everyone,

I am experiencing this issue on at least 15 Think Pads so far. None of them are imaged installations. They all use the Lenovo USB-C Gen2 docks or Thunderbolt 3 Docks and all laptops are on Windows 10 2004 and later.  This has been occurring for about 4 weeks BSOD with WDF0100.sys paired with rtump64x64.sys

We tried updating the Lenovo USB Ethernet driver to the latest version 10.44.1214.2020 which crashed all laptops instantly and repeatedly. We rolled back to 10.39.518.2020 and we began having issues with the Ethernet connection cycling online and offline.  If we disable the Lenovo USB Ethernet device and plug the ethernet cable directly into the Think Pad everything works fine and no crashes.

We have also performed fresh installs of windows using Lenovo os recovery and os media from Microsoft. We also received new E15 laptops last week and all of them crashed after being docked even though they were just unboxed from factory.

Think Pad Models include: T480, T490, T495, T580, T590, T595, E15, X1 Carbon, and X1 Yoga

Dock Model: 40AS and 40AC

FW Version: 1.0.6.06161
