We currently have an S2200 SAN and wish to purchase an expansion enclosure as we have already filled up the SAN with physical disks and nearing capacity.
The original plan is to purchase an expansion enclosure for the S2200, however due to availability we have been offered another identical S2200 SAN, oddly enough the price of an additional S2200 is actually cheaper than an expansion enclosure.
So my questions:
- Is it possible to connect another S2200 to our current S2200 via the expansion ports (highlighted in yellow on the attached pic) and have it function like a simple expansion enclosure?
- If so is there any special configuration for the current and new SAN?
- By having an extra S2200 will this allow better redundancy as this would technically mean we would have 4 controllers (2 on each SAN)?

The S2200 & S3200 Expansion out ports (highlighted in yellow) are specifically designed for adding either the E1012 or E1024 storage expansion enclosures only. Connecting two S2200's together through the SAS expansion ports would not create a working configuration for adding storage expansion, increased port density or redundancy and would not be supported.

The E1012 and E1024 expansion enclosures are the only compatible expansion options for the S2200. The S2200 does not support expansion using the newer 12G DS-series expansion enclosures.
