Lenovo Storage V3700 V2 and Seagate Exos x16 ST12000NM002G

2021-07-15, 13:06 PM

Hello,

I have a Lenovo Storage V3700 V2 with an expansion shelf.  We researched and found the ST12000NM002G is compatible with the 3700 V2 so we purchased 12 hard drives to fill the shelf.  The drives spin up but only show as unused and Online.  I have tried to mark the drives as a candidate but receive the following error:

Task started.
The task is 0% complete.
Running command:
svctask chdrive -use candidate 11
Unable to mark drive ID 11 as candidate
CLI returned error message:
CMMVC6595E The command cannot be initiated because a drive that you have specified has a technology type that is not supported for the command.
Synchronizing memory cache.
The task is 100% complete.
The task completed with errors.

I tried to update the firmware on the drives with the firmware on the Lenovo support page (storagedisk6535_drive_20210621) and get the following error:

Task started.
Running command:
svctask applydrivesoftware -drive 11 -file /home/admin/upgrade/storagedisk6535_drive_20210621-3850680731252054484 -type firmware
CLI returned error message:
CMMVC8309E The task cannot be initiated because some of the specified drives have an unsupported drive technology.
The task completed with errors.

The V3700 V2 is running the latest version of firmware 8.2.1.13(build 147.21.2104210349000).

Has anyone successfully utilized these drives?  If so, how?

Thank you!

Shane

Hi Shane Metzler

Please refer to this post. The user has encountered some troubles when updating the firmware of the drive.

But when he uses the management GUI to manually select the drive, he can successfully update the drive. It might be worth a shot.

Updating drive firmware

by using the management GUI, select Pools > Internal Storage > Actions > Update All. You can also update individual drives.

Please feel free to leave your comment, thank you for support Lenovo

  Hello,

I tried that method and still am unable to update the drives.  Do you know if anyone has successfully deployed these drives in a V3700 v2?

If these drives are not Storwize drives they will be locked out.  Storwize drives contain custom FW.

RaidGuru,

Just to ensure I understand...If our department had purchased the drives directly from Lenovo they would have worked in the V3700v2 however, since we purchased them from an authorized Seagate vendor the drives will not work in the system because they do not have the proper firmware.  Is this correct?  If so, can we purchase the firmware and upgrade them or is there any way to get the drives to work in the system?  If not, where is an authorized place to purchase drives from Lenovo?

Thank you,

Shane

That software also do not work well for me. I decided to check saas service tremendous.com  for my online enterprise.  I want to implement gift cards for customers and increasing visiting of my survey service.
