Flipout not seen by PC

2011-01-26, 10:17 AM

Hi,

I have a problem connecting my Flipout to a PC, the PC just does not see the phone as 'removable storage' when selected "Memory card access" in the USB settings on the phone. Also it is not being charged when set to "Charge only".

I installed MotoHelper on my PC's, I tried two PC's with Windows7, and one with XP SP3. On the XP system the MotoHelper driver was automatically updated to "MotoHelper 2.0.43 Driver 4.9.0", after having the computer on for a few hours, but this did not make any difference. (I did not have the Windows 7 systems on that long I think). Apart from the phone, the USB ports on the PC's are working fine.

On the PC I sometimes see "USB device not recognized / Unknown device", but not each time I connect. If not, then just nothing happens on the PC.

I also tried an unmount and format of the SD card, still not seen by PC. Also I did a reboot of both the PC and the phone and then tried to connect, same result, not seen by PC.

The firmware of the phone is 2.1-update 1.

What I also noticed, when I power on the phone, the USB symbol is not there. When I try to connect it to the computer, the USB symbol appears on the Flipout, unfortunately further nothing much happens, and when I disconnect the phone from the computer, the USB symbol stays. Is this supposed to be this way?

Is there something I am doing wrong here?

It sounds like you are doing the right things. Make sure you are using the Moto Cable that came with the phone, and you are not going through a hub. Some computers (desktops) don't work with the front USB ports, but work fine with the back ones.

You may need to see about getting your phone serviced or replaced if multiple PCs don't work.

Re: Flipout not seen by PC

Hi! It sounds like I have the exakt same problem as Eric H. All computers I try to connect my Flipout to (tried 3 different ones) says the same thing even after I downloaded the USB-driver for flipout and windows (32 bit on the computer that operates on 32 bit and 64 on my laptop that operates on 64) - "Unknown device". I read somewhere that it will help if you tick the box for USB debugging, so I did that, same thing still. Strangely enough though when the phone is swithched off the green LED charging-light lights up when connected to the computer. I can't charge the phone when it's on through the USB and computer but when switched off it works.

Please help me with this, I can't do anything with my new phone as long as the USB connection wont work. Is it really the phone that needs service (it's brand new)? My phone makes a sound when plugged in to the computer like it reacts that the computer is connected to it, the problem is that no computer can find the phone and memory card. I also tried formatting the memory card, same problem. Please someone help!

By the way.. I live in Sweden and bought the phone at televaruhuset.com

Where do I turn with the problem if I can't find a solution? As I wrote the phone is brand new and I feel that everything should work...

Hope I am not too late...

I had the exact same problem with my phone, and then I tried another USB port on the same computer, then it worked. The phone is now charging.

I have some USBtoMICRO cables, and USBtoMINI cables with adapter.

The MINI cable with adapter will charge the battery but does not let the PC see the phone.

you should be using the original cable that came with the phone. Usb cables and mini to micro adaptors may  not work because of the resistance and data pin lineups.
