VCard exports without "+" [was:bluetooth problem]

2011-01-23, 18:25 PM

hello All,

I have stored all my numbers as +39-02-1234567, i.e. with + and country code in front.

The phone works fine, BUT when I turn on the Bluetooth in my car, the car downloads the address book without the + in front, so dialing from the car system will fail.

To double check, I tried sending a contact from Flipout to my pc with BT, and the contact comes out with the + sign in front:

BEGIN:VCARD

VERSION:2.1

N:Paolo;Rossi;;;

FN:Paolo Rossi

TEL;CELL:393-478-123456

END:VCARD

Is this a bug?

Can you reproduce it on your phone?

thanks for reading,

-Gian

The issue has been fixed with software Version 1.19.2.

This update might be available right now. You can try going through the update process from here:

http://www.motorola.com/staticfiles/Support/Experiences/sdcards/IT-IT/retail/flipout/index.html

If it's not yet available, please try again in a couple of days.

After further investigation, I realized that it is NOT a bluetooth problem.

Vcards are exported without the "+" sign in front of the number, regardless that you use BT, Wifi, or email.

This looks like a bug to me but I would like to check if anyone else can reproduce the issue on their Flipout.

If you stored the phone number with the "+" in front, then i would expect the numbers to be exported that way.

Did i misunderstand the issue? If i understand correctly, this would not be a bug as you are exporting exactly what you input.

I have all contacts stored with the "+" sign and country code, because otherwise it would not work when abroad.

The Flipout exports the numbers - via email, gmail, BT, nevermind - without "+" sign, thus the number is unusable when transferred to other phone/car/pda/pc/gizmo/contact.

Please can you try it on yours, to see if it's mine to behave like that, or not?

sorry, i read your question wrong... i thought you were complaining that the were exported with the plus.

So if you sync with gmail - are you syncing your contacts to gmail? If so, do they have + in the gmail system (on the web) if they do, does gmail export them OK? If not, then that is a gmail issue.

I can create a contact on my phone with a "+1" in front of it. This syncs to gmail and i can then see the +1 in my gmail using a web browser (Firefox). I can export from gmail into a csv and this also has the +1.

Are you using the word export when you mean send?

yes, I think you got it the other way round...

Gmail has the +1, my Flipout has the +1, which is correct, BUT the Flipout exports the number without +.

This makes it unusable to the receiver (car or phone).

To reproduce this error, you have to export from flipout -> vcard selecting contact,share...

On my USA phone the + is NOT exported when i send a vcf via Gmail. Checking on an international phone.

Is your Flipout from Italy? Not a USA phone?

I will have news tomorrow regarding the International phone.....
