Any news on the Fedora Thinkpad availability?

2020-06-16, 21:47 PM
Are there any details you can share in regards to when Fedora Thinkpad configurations will be made available? It was stated that the Thinkpad P1 Gen 2 would be supported but rumours say a P1 Gen 3 is arriving in July sooo... :)

A bit concerning that there's still no estimated ETA for the Fedora Thinkpad program launch. It was initially planned for June/July I believe? We're now in the second half of August and several of the originally mentioned supported laptops are now being replaced with new generations (X1E/P1).

I'm assuming they're just taking more time to get all the drivers working, documentation, pricing and web frontends ready, but the longer we go without any information, the more I fear that this will be a 2020-edition of Dell's Project Sputnik. That project is awesome, but for several years, it was basically just Barton George and a single engineer and they pushed out laptops with above average, but nowhere near perfect, Linux compatibility. Even today we're seeing Project Sputnik supported laptops that lack support for S3 Sleep.

I see the P1 Gen 3 is available now. I'm awaiting the Fedora config option before considering a purchase.

Just a note - the X1 Cqarbon Gen 8 is up on the site. I posted a few more details here:
